Ignition Switch?

Hi,i have a question about my 97 f150 4.6 4x4.auto.As soon as i open the left door,my chime goes off,and will sound the whole time till i start the truck. This to me doesnt sound normal.I have a feeling the ignition switch is bad and thinks the key is left in it.It seems to function properly, starts good etc.any feed-back?Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem with my old bronco. The door chime will go off no matter what even if the key was not in it. The dealer told me that it would need a new ignition switch b/c it was worn out.

The chime is energized by opening the door, which means it's governed by the same circuit that works the interior lights. If the door switch for the interior lights is sticking in the on position (common on this model), the key-in-ignition system won't know that the door is closed. Try lubing the door latch (which also contains the door switch) with WD-40 and cycling the door a few times. Might be the cure.
