I think maybe you should have posted this in the 67-72 forum to let them know how you feel. They might not have the best techs but I think they were more looking at reliability so the problem wouldn't happen again. Some of the guys have upgraded their ignitions and are happy with it and wanted to pass that on to you. Yes, I do visit the 67-72 and the Ranger forum from time to time. Sometimes when I post, I have to wait for an answer to my problem also. Nice 71 btw.
I have a 1976 High Boy that I have had since 81 .. I have been through everything on it from front to back ..Every once in a while I post in that forum ,only to be greeted with attitude . Those that know way more than I about the the truck. The first time I ever blocked any one was from there ... They called me a hack because I didn't do a mod the way they did ... The mod was something I did , long before any of them figured out how to solve the steering problem I had.. My mod was cheap & effective , & has been fine for 20 years . When I passed it along , I was called a hack ..
Texas boy residing in Pearl courtesy of the Navy. Fingers crossed I can get transferred back stateside this year. Been a long 5 yrs out here
Then it looks like I'll be buying YOU a drink. My stepson is in the Navy, he was stationed on the USS Theodore Roosevelt out of Norfolk until it went in for overhaul or whatever they call it when they put them in for big maintenance. He's in Jacksonville now.

I don't really feel that I have the right to complain if I have to wait for an answer. As I said in the first post, no one owes anyone anything here. In fact, the post I made in the 67-72 forum wasn't really wasn't a request for advice. What I had asked was whether or not anyone agreed with the advice I had received from the guy at NAPA. No one said yeas or no. Only one reply was received, that was from the guy suggesting I ditch the Duraspark ignition. So all I was ever really saying here is that I did not realize that all forums on FTE were not like the PSD forum, where virtually all problems posted are given some sort of attention and followed through until a conclusion is reached. Believe it or not, I've never really ventured outside that forum other than my initial posts in the bumpside forum when I joined in 2006. The feeling I got after the previously mentioned post was that no one was really interested. There is nothing wrong with that, it just took me by surprise is all. It's not at all what I thought FTE was about, given my experience in the PSD forum.
I don't think anyone was being a snob, or that I was personally being snubbed. I just think no one was really interested in what was going on in that thread and they moved on. I don't feel it would be appropriate to go back in there and complain, as if I were a paying customer demanding a service. I just I would come here to this off-topic forum and post this eye-opening observation I had made.
BTW, I was so impressed with the level of response and help that I received when I had my PSD that I was a paying supporter of this site for that time. I got so much from this place that I felt like I owed something for what I had gained.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm very satisfied with my choice.
I don't see where people get this stuff, we always help in the offroad forum if you ask a question, might be some off topic involved as well, but it's just jokes and you always get the answer you need.
Are you sure! Well I was there! and I can asure you that I was the only help to the Op who was not a regular in that forum either. I was a lurker in that section for a lil while, looking for some other info and I saw his question and decided i could help. This backfired and we both got ridiculed...

In cases like this its best to remember to ask yourself "WTF is this guy (those guys) to bring such BS where its just not necessary?" Sadly though there is at least one bonehead in every forum whose 100% intent on proving something, who has to bicker or inject minuscule "facts" that just don't apply, added for reasons only they know. Whether that's "computer courage" only or they feel superior because they're part of an imaginary group its hard to tell----and not worth our time.

Yeah, I didn't mean to stir up any accusations of snobbery and snubbing, although I'm sure that goes on. I didn't really feel that was the case here. I think maybe I'm just an anomaly. I can't afford a nice new truck and I figure if I'm going to buy a used vehicle for $3-4K, what can I expect to get out of a newer vehicle? I'd rather spend my money on the classic I've always wanted and if anything goes wrong with it, I'll be in fairly familiar territory rather than being faced with a confusing array of vacuum hoses and computers. For the money that I spent for my '71 I don't think I could have gotten a later model truck that I would have been happy with, except for maybe another OBS PSD. For years my bike was my only transportation and I depended on it. Now I have my truck and I depend on it as well. I need it to be a daily driver so if it has issues, I have to address them immediately.
I feel the same way; that's why i bought my classic '78 f150. (Insurance is a lot cheaper too.) Didn't offend me any. I understand your frustrations, feelings and thoughts on the subject. Sure, you can expect to have a 30-40yr old truck to be a dependable daily driver. I use my '78 f150 every day. But sure there are times when these old trucks may have some issue that may keep it down for a short while. I've had mine towed home a couple times and fought some odd issues a few times to keep her running. I've posted on the forums in desperation with some of the problems, looking for a quick answer. I did not always get them as fast as i've wanted. (a lot of times i did. ) But i understand that we've all got lives outside the internet forums and that answers dont always come quick. Two days is not the norm for the forums that i've posted in. I've also learned that the search functions are an Immense tool. While I'm waiting for answers to questions I've posted, i do searches on several terms of the problems i'm experiencing with my truck. Most of the time i actually find someone else who's had the same problems and others have posted the answers in those threads. I hope in the future you get the answers you seek faster.
I found this attitude in the 4x4 section of FTE, I just happened to to be catch a post i thought i could help with... Me and OP got ridiculed... I didnt stand for it and ridiculed right back, it got heated enough that i thought I was going to get a MOD warning or something...
Well...I wasnt gonna name name names but since ya mention it..thats primarily the forum I was referencing...which sucks because offroading is primarily why im here.

Oh Ya Paul? Calib seems to think so too. Maybe time for some introspective look. Or not, its a free country with in reason. If you guys want to be dicks thats fine, just dont be under any illusions that you guys love to help people out. Dont confuse this with helping nobody out, but there is a difference with helping every one out

Now dont anyone get me wrong...I love messin around and joking....but It seems to me often that innocent questions or comments get ridiculed for no apparent reason or everything is turned into a sometimes harsh off topic thread. An Im not sayin its everyone...and no i definetly will not name names there.

I like the joking and sillyness too, as a matter of fact I once was the first to respond to a newb's question in the F-250 section. his question was "where do you guys put your chip in these f-250's"? or something real similar. I responded with I like to dip my chips in Salsa and left it at that. Someone came by real quick to help this guy out. So it goes to show that Fun is fine when appropriate and not taken to far...
