well, you don't have to scratch very deeply on the net to get about
a bezillion negative reports on BO head gaskets.

i'd be just a bit tweaked if i'd just paid $$$ to have one of their kits
put in, to find out it used inferior components.

i may be misunderstanding this, but my understanding is that
sinister MAKES black onyx head gaskets. is this incorrect?

there are threads on all the 6.0 forums with people pulling their
BO gaskets off after 10,000 miles.... there isn't any way i'd want
ANYTHING made by a company that was responsible for parts like
that.

latest update

finally, i got it in! yay me! lol

my buddy was my 2nd pair of eyes.

being a former engineer, i'm paranoid about precision and everything working EXACTLY how it's supposed to be. i know, i'm a silly goose.

anyway, i noticed a couple of things. just thought i'd mention them.

the little plug needs to be taken out and resealed with new ptfe tape, or it'll have a very slow drip.

i used a line clamp to make my job easier on one part of the entire line. frees up my hands to handle the other half of the line tat i just cut.

while mounting the bracket on the radiator mount, it's better if u got an extension to attach to the 10mm socket, cos there aint enough room to move in there, and i sure as heck don't have girly fingers.

everything works as it should. so far. i put the pics in my truck album on facebook. pics are available upon request. i'll email y'all pics if y'all want it. she sits pretty. i'm pressed and excited.

looking forward to cutting it open after 500 miles. if all is well, my next filter change interval should be when? i just need the change intervals, guys. thanks again for all y'alls concern and support. it makes me feel much better that i aint messing it up.

i'm so relieved and ecstatic tat i finally got this done! i'm still pumped up about it! have a blessed memorial day weekend, guys! dont forget to salute our veterans and wounded warriors and honor those who gave their lives in the service of this country and her freedom.

ah... ok... when i read their web site,
it said:

"Kit Includes:
EGR Delete Kit by Sinister Mfg. Company
Black Onyx Head Gaskets either 18mm or
20mm by Sinister Mfg. Company"

so i got the impression that they made both
the EGR delete and Black Onyx HG.

No real solid guidelines on filter change interval Snuggy, after the initial 500mi or so you'll have some kind of idea. If it's got a lot of junk in it I would Chang it again pretty soon, if it's clean you might do it every year. Some have said to feel the line, if it's not as hot as it used to be or ther's a noticable difference between the inlet and outlet hose temps you'll know it's not flowing as much coolant. Being it's a by-pass set up it won't overheat the truck if it's completely clogged (or you turn the valves off).

Please take some photos of the element when you cut it open.
My first one at 500 Miles was more or less clean just a bit
of slippery stuff But no sand or flakes.

Reciprocating saw (sawzall) or hacksaw. Preferably stabilize in a vise. Use a finer blade.

I m gonna be changing mine in the next few days. I ll post how using a hacksaw will work.

I used a cutoff wheel at low speed with a bit of tape over the opening to keep the crap out. The best tool is this one
New Universal Aluminum Adjustable Oil Filter Cutter | eBay
This one from Summit Racing is also very good
Summit Racing SUM-900510 - Summit Racing® Oil Filter Cutters - Overview - SummitRacing.com
Both are post-less. The reason you don't want one with a center post
is the size of the threads. Water filters are smaller than the oil filter ones. That is why the one with out the post is better.
We will be looking forward to the photos

If you have sheetmetal cutters left/right/straight cutting doesn't matter push it through sheet metal and cut your way around the can. Kinda like a drunk trying to open a sardine can w/out the key These will leave no trace so whats in the filter has nothing to do with opening it up. Anyhow thats how I do it and its very clean.
Best of Luck.

I just did the coolant filter system from sinister myself today!!! I can't wait in a few hundred miles I'm gonna crack the filter open and see what I have. Also while I was under the hood I cleaned my EGR valve. Oh boy that was a mess. it's all pretty now and ready to run the road.

I just wanted to say THANKS to all of you guys that post " how too's" on here, without your help I wouldn't know where to start!!! Thanks fellow fordsters
