I haven't yet had the chance to change mine..it's been probably 2K mi since I installed it. I check the hoses when it's hot once a week or so and they all seem to be close to the same temp.
That filter seems damn clean to me. Change it along with the oil, I m guessing.
I've already made an actual post-it note and my next official coolant filter change will be 3000 miles. If all goes well, it'll be once a year after tat. Agree or disagree?
I feel the Hoses if return line still hot its good its flowing
it was like my 2nd or 3rd filter I ran till the return side wasnt as hot I thought it was Pluged anyway I cut it open and Nothing really in there at all I really couldnt see anything on the filter media I was also running FORD Gold coolant this filter
Seems to me The ELC dont clog the filter as Fast Im still kinda testing that theory but this ELC With the filter I have in now has gone a Month or so Longer than the Gold stuff
The first after 500 miles. Found some sand and stuff, maybe a table spoon.
Next filter, about 1000 miles, less sand, but really, not much in there.
The third was strange. I don't recall how many miles, but the thing plugged. (I was doing the touchy feely thing) I really couldn't find what had clogged it.
The fourth one has been on for more than 15,000 miles and it is still flowing.
I did change out the Ford gold after the clogged filter. So, who knows ( I'm using John Deere coolant)
My first flush was at 30,000 miles and did VC-9 at that time. And did another flush about when I changed to JD coolant.
So, my truck is an 04 and it has 56,000 miles on the clock and it has been flushed twice!
By the way, the first flush took for ever to do!!!

Wait till it clogs. That's what I'm doing. Right or wrong? I think it becomes a personal choice.

Sean Thats what I found to on like 3rd filter doing the touch thing aswell it was pluged and Cut it open and Nothing there Ford Gold on this filter too
Now with ELC the filter has gone further for shure
My personal opinion is the Ford Gold is BAD JU-JU Just odd that we had same outcome with the GOLD being that it pluged and then nothing was Found upon inspection
I'm running Ford gold as well. Thanks for the responses. So far so good. Now that y'all mention It, I'm gonna pay extra attention to the lines for my current filter until the end of the 3rd one.
Just finished installing my Performance Machine coolant filter. Wasn't too bad, but the precut hoses were cut wrong. Kind of upset me because that was the reason I went with Performance over other models.
Before:
The hose to the heater was too long. Instead of connecting to the heater hose at the front of the engine like the instructions called for, I decided to install it at the other end of the hose next to the heater valve and avoided having a coil of hose hanging perilously close to my belt.
But that caused it's own set of problems. It kinked the hose behind the valve and forced me to trim an inch or so off the heater hose. You may notice the white ziptie holding the heater valve. I'm pretty sure that isn't a factory design, but that's how it was when I bought it.
After everything was finished:
As you can see the hose from the filter to the degas bottle is humped up a bit from the extra length. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to lay flat on the fan shroud. I drove it a bit to check for leaks and see if I could find any signs of it rubbing on the hood. So far no indication of either, but I'm going to keep an eye on that.
Like I said, I chose Performance because of the precut hoses and crimped fittings. That would have been great if they had measured everything correct. With the crimped fittings it was impossible to cut them to fit.
