I can't comment on the ease of installation, but I can warn you that I've seen some disastrous results of setting the incorrect start pulse and eating up starters and ring gears. But I've also seen installations go quite well. It can't be that hard to set up if the alarm module supports it; it should just be a matter of splicing into the correct two or three wires.
The remote starter is the ONLY thing I didn’t install on my truck because one of our tenants gave me a deal. Remote starters run anywhere from $100-$300 (i suggest Avital). It doesn’t effect security as it doesn’t have an alarm and cant be driven or shifted into gear without the key. As you may know (or not) the keyless entry does not work with the truck running, that’s why I added the relay and such so it wouldn’t think the truck was running until I inserted the key. If your thinking about one just let me know as with all my mods I researched this one heavily before I acted and was ready to install it myself before I got a deal on the install.
For the picture the Red circle is the back side of the cubby hole to the right of the steering column right above the gas pedal as Steve has pointed out.
I've installed several Bulldog R-114 starter/keyless entry systems in several vehicles, and I love 'em. Sam's Club sells them for $50 (when they HAVE them), and it's hard to beat the features, even at 3x that price.
This must be my day.. Regarding the keyless entry alarm. I can get the remote to open and close doors. However, I cannot get it to set. I do not get the chirp after "X" seconds and the red alarm light instead o blinking is a constand red glow.... Help !!
Was this original on the truck? at any rate it sounds to me like its an avital brand alarm (or alike). The constant red glow indicates that the system is in valet mode. Simply put it means the alarm part of the system is disabled, good for when its at the shop and stuff. What you need to do is locate the valet switch (early models) or button (late models). To re-arm the system.
