ok well ill give it a shot with the snap ring in the grove then after everything is installed slide the housing over the top of the mainshaft and hope it fits flush
I'm not seeing that it outright tells us what we're seeking, but it's the actual Ford manual and has some good info. This picture seems to show what's up. You have to look close to see in the second pic, it appears to contradict the first. It shows the snap ring holding the bearing into the extension housing, on the FRONT side of the bearing?!
Fellas, I think we are getting somewere i found out i have a 57-62 car 3 speed in my 1954 f100 that im redoing which is going to require me to get a custom driveshaft as i cant find a 59 truck mainshaft....but thats alright i just needed to know where that last bearing went and it appears the housing is where it goes???
so are we saying if i put the snap ring on the outside of the bearing where the grove is it should fit into the housing cause here is my issue that i forgot about i have no idea how that ring on the bearing works because when i took the mainshaft out of the housing it didnt have a snap ring around it and it was a snug flush fit....add an bit more and it wont go into the tailhousing. So with that being said the tailhousing where the bearing goes into has two grooves do you think the ring goes into one of the grooves in the tailhousing?
The second picture I posted appears to show it snapping into a groove in the tailhousing, to retain the bearing in the TH. Not sure your trans is 100% the same as that manual tho.
ok guys i finally found out what the issue is the snap ring goes into the housing it was in the instructions for the manual that was posted thanks alot guys heres what the manual says "place the output shaft and bearing assembly in the extension housing, and secure with the snap ring."
