I am changing the bearings--front end ttb axel. Ford says that there is an inner and outer retaining nut with a washer in between. I don't have this. Just a single nut (in an "L" shape) with a c-clip with a do-hicky thing sticking out. Is this right or did someone forget something?
(sorry for the technical lingo)
Okay, this is how it should be from the top of my head.
6 allen head screws to take the lockout face off. There should be a spring behind it with the engagement ring.
1 large snap ring, no holes. Just a beveled edge to get a pic under on end. This goes around the entire bearing housing. Just behind where the oring for the lockout face oring seals to the hub.
1 small snap ring on the end of the splined shaft. You can use regular snap ring pliers on this.
**** Now take two allen head screws and screw them back in either side of the lockout body and wiggle the body out.
Next there should be one large lock nut with 4 notches cut out of it for a lock ring socket with 4 nipples. ( I said nipples.....)
Once that's out, there should be a lock ring with holes all the way around it. That comes out with a pick.
Now there should be another lockring with 4 notches with a dowl pin facing the lock ring. This one comes out like the first.
Once that's out, you should be able to wiggle the hub and get the outter bearing to fall out. and the hub and rotor should slide off.
That's it, I'm having a hard time picturing what you are talking about. If you need photos let me know.
3 torx to remove cover
large snap ring
small snap ring on shaft
Large 2-3\4 "semi round" nut
done
Thats it and it is in pieces on the floor. I was just checking the torque specs when I saw the two Lock nuts. Inner nut at 50 lbs and back off 1\4 turn -washer-and then the outer at 160 lbs
The one single I took off was tight as crap. Maybe thats why i am changing the bearings now
Thats the pic that is throwing me for a loop.
69 66 and 70 are not there
