My Aussie F3 came standard with what appear to be Mercury park lights on the front fenders, rather than in the grille. I can't find a new set of the lights anywhere, does anyone know if they are reproduced?
From the photos we've seen, we believe those lights are unique to Aussie trucks only. You'll have to determine if those parts came from something else more common, and it's quite likely they did. We would have no way of knowing from our parts catalogs anything about the unique Aussie parts. They're not listed. You'll need to find a local parts catalog and see if any of the numbers correspond with ours.
I was hoping for an easy solution, guess not! The area on the fenders where the lights mount have a stamped area to accomodate them, this area on my fenders is quite badly rusted and will be almost impossible to rebuild without a patch panel. Given that fact and the difficulty finding lights, I think I'm going to smooth the fenders out and use an American style grille with the park lights in the grille, this will allow me to add indicators easily as well. Not 100% original but these trucks are so rare here that no one will know.
I've been a Ford truck man all my life and have never seen another F3 in Aus, occasionally an F1 will turn up at a show but not often. Finding a parts catalogue is probably not an option. Every single part I am using on this is having to come from the states, the total shipping bill for the rebuild will run to 3 or 4 grand.
Hey Aussiecowboy, could you show us what you have so we can see if they are the mercury lights. I can maybe find you some of the glass lenses, and you can fabricate the bulb holder ( I've seen some that were made ). The chrome trim is going to be the main problem. Some idea of the size would be nice to know too. What does the area on the fender look like? Size? Greg M-47
I just went through all the photos I have of the truck, none shows the lights well. I am currently bobbing around on an oil rig off the East coast of India so taking more is a bit of a problem right now
I don't mind helping if I can. I like going to swapmeets so nice to have something to search for while I'm walking around. I've got the parts for my truck but have another project to find parts for. A 1979 GMC Vandura. ( My first new vehicle was a1979 Chev van and I had a weak flashback moment so I'm twenty again. ) Anybody have some old fender flares or visor for one of these ?? Greg M-47
i've also been looking for these lights. i've found something very similar, i think they are just missing the mounting studs. it's hard to tell by the picture if they are the correct size but i've been thinking about taking a chance and ordering them to see if they'll work. but at $75 a pop if they don't work it's a bit of a pain in the *** to send them back. i hope this helps because if you can keep it all original you should do it!!!
Hey Jolly Roger, took a look at your MAC's lights. Not quite by the look of the picture. Numbers Dummy knew the year of a Ford car that had the exact same light base and lens. The only difference was the chrome trim for it was a little more fancy than the plainer mercury chrome. I can't remember what year it was ?? I sent some photocopies of the mercury light from a parts book to the Mercury website but it never got shown for some reason. If I run into the guy that made his own light bases I'll see if he can make some more. That would leave the lens and chrome to find?? Greg M-47 I sold a set 8 years ago for $150 CDN. Haven't seen any complete sets for awhile. No idea what price would be now.
Those lights that Jolly Roger found look pretty close and they might be all right if you needed both . Sadly there's just not enough Merc's around to have many Merc specific parts on the market .
Silly me, I forgot i had the Canadian parts catalog. We were talking about Aussie trucks and the Canadian connection didn't click right away. The park lamp lens on the 48-50 Mercury trucks is the same as the 42-46/early 47 Ford passenger car part. It shows the bezel as different, but as mentioned, it's likely just a detail thing, not anything that will make a difference from a functionality stand point. Here's a link to the parts from one source. The lamp lens 21A-13208 is $9.95. I would think if the lens is the same, the entire assembly can be made to fit without too much difficulty. p/n 51A-13200, the second item down on the list.
