Hey ya our '97 work truck starting acting up this morning. On the way to work the fastest it would go was 40-45 mph and nothing pass 2,100 rpms. The only code that I get is P0472 which is exhaust back pressure sensor but it's being running like that without any issues expect for today. Can this sensor affect performance that much or What could it be? Another question, while I was checking the fuel filter, which by the way it is clean, I notice another loose o-ring besides the one from the cap. I thought you only needed one? Thanks
the EBS can cause power lose problems and bad MPG. Get a new one around 70 bucks and clean the tube with brake cleaner and a length of weed eater string. And loose orings? you mean a loose fuel line feeting? any loose or broke fuel oring means no power in a diesel, sucking air aint maiking power that way
I'd start with checking the fuel pressure at idle. On the driver side of the fuel bowl you'll see what looks like the end of a valve steam(like on your tire) check the fuel pressure there you can use a stick style tire gauge to check it your looking for atleast 50psi at idle.
I removed and cleaned the pipe that goes to the Ebp sensor. While it looks clogged in the picture below, it wasn't, it was mud/oil from the block when I was removing it. It still didn't make a difference in performance but the code did go away.

Maybe your EBPV is sticking? I would try unhooking the connection right under the turbo inlet.

^^2x do this before you do anything else. If the BEPS is not reading correctly it could be closing off the EBPV while you're driving and that will definitely affect the performance. Unhook the two wire connector under the rubber boot on the intake side of the turbo and see if that helps. The EBPV would also make the turbo make a weird noise if it is closing off. Kind of a "whooshing" sound. Still an easy thing to try.
