Hey Guys, I got frustrated searching for this one, I know it's comman and I've seen it before. I figured I just post it for some help.
A friends 97 F350 starts & idles ok but has no power once he gets going down the road. it bogs down as if it's starved for fuel. He was thinking injectors needed cleaning. He changed fuel filter, and filled bowl with Diesel Kleen, and it runs great for awhile, but then acts like it's not getting enough fuel.
I was thinking IPR. Somebody else said somthing about a tin nut? What's that on? What, do you all suggest? He has NOt pull any codes yet. Goining to try that 1st chance we get.
I bought a 16-oz bottle of Diesel Kleen and put half in each tank, then started using four ounces in each tank for two fill-ups.
What is the fuel pressure at the FPR? It should be somewhere between 45 psi to 75 psi. Mine was at 40 psi. Truck ran ok, but felt like it was lacking something. I did the FPR shim. Fuel pressure is 70 psi. Throttle response is MUCH better, engine idles smoother, and seems a bit quieter.
Sounds like your not building boost. Check all the orange boots that connect the turbo to the intake manifolds for leaks...also check the MAP sensor hose for leaks. If there happens to be something wrong with you MAP sensor you can unplug it and then drive it and see if it makes a difference.

Something else he told me today.... if he manual downshifts (it's an auto) it will rev up and run fine. But once he shifts it back up to 4th, no more power.
How do you check the MAP sensor?
Does the truck idle rough once warm?? could be an IPR problem. My truck acted a lot like that when I first got it. I had bad IPR orings as well as debris in the ipr. Also check the manifolds for broken bolts that exhaust leaks. Pretty common problem on these trucks. just some cheap things to look at if it doesn't chane in limp mode (ie with the map sensor unplugged) I would check the ICP as well, just unlug it and run the truck to see if anything changes
