How much should I overfill the manual trans?
Hey Guys,
I'm doing some maintenance to the truck tonight and I thought I'd overfill the manual trans since I'm sure the shop didn't overfill it when they tore it apart to replace the bearings last Fall.
I'm using Redline D4 ATF; the same fluid the shop filled it with, but I can't remember how much I should overfill it by. I have a little over a quart at my disposal.
Thanks in advance!

I think I have 5 in mine also. IIRC it takes 3 1/2 quarts, I put 4 in and wanted a little more so I just put the whole 5th one in there. So 1 1/2 quarts overfilled.

I've been thinking about putting a barbed hose fitting in the filler hole on my trans and t-case, and run 3/4" hose up the frame rail on the driver's side and up by the brake booster with ball valves on the ends of the hoses. Then I could just pour the fluid in that way and don't half to lay under the truck and pump......and pump, and pump.... Think that would work?

That's pretty much what I did. Figured 5 couldn't hurt.

Yeah that's the way I over filled the trans, but I'm talking about for regular fluid changes for the trans and t-case. I'm probably just over thinking it though LOL!! My wife says I do that a lot......over think things.

Yeah, I pull the shifter when I change the fluid. The t-case doesn't need to be overfilled and can be filled from under the truck really easily.
