I posted these pics in my brake upgrade thread but its not getting any traffic and I want y'all to know about these brake pads for future reference.
I like them, they feel really good so far. I have only done the rear pair, front will be on soon.
Here's a few pics.
I LOVE my 3/4 drive metric socket set. 21MM socket for the caliper bolts.
Lifted and ready to go. Don't flame me for jacking on the rear diff. It's just there for safety.
Pads I chose. Box shows F350 dually but they fit my F250.
Nice pads. I like the paint, not crazy about the color though.
Old pads had 5mm left. Not shot but they were noisy so I replaced them.
I love zip ties.
I lubed the slider pins. 90W oil.
Pic of the new pad installed.
Another pic. I like the paint, makes it easy to see the pad and I am looking forward to seeing how long it lasts and if it helps to inspect the pads as time goes on.
I have not really driven around yet and only replaced the rears so far. I will comment on any change in braking feel and noise when I drive around a bit this week. So far, they seem a little more grippy than stock. Quieter too.
I generally don't bother turning the rotors unless I think they need it. The surfaces are good, no modulation/vibration, no grooves. Surface is nice so I left them alone. I've been changing brakes out on my own vehicles for over 20 years, I think I have a good feel of knowing when to turn the rotors or not. Also, I usually will turn or replace rotors after two sets of pads. So next time, regardless of the condition, the rears will get fresh rotors.
I just went out and got them real hot. I drove real easy on them for about a dozen gentle stops yesterday. Now I just went out and made 6 really hard stops from 65mph to zero and can smell the new pads. So far, abs tends to kick in pretty quick, regular stopping is nice and firm feeling, brake pedal is a little more twitchy now in a good way.
When they cool off I am going to see if the standard SD brake groan is there. You the sound, when you put your foot on the brake and go into gear you hear that growl when you let go and coast. Also the little groan when you stop and go into reverse, very common sound especially when lining up to a trailer to hook up.
So far, those sounds are gone but the pads are very new so time will tell. So far it's looking real good and quiet.
I did re-use the factory clips that retain the pads in the caliper. I'm sure they are some kind of retainer and anti-squeak device to reduce vibration during light use and driving.
Nope. The pad material is ceramic/metallic and normal in color, the green is a powder coat on the outer edges that I like, I hope it makes it easy to monitor the wear making for easy brake checks.
I bought an AFE DPF back exhaust pipe. Stock one is under the house next to the stock air box (I have an AFE cold air intake) and the extension ladder.
