Its a completely stock 2001 7.3 4X4 with 177k.. from what i have been reading here, i need a Hellwig sway bar, and I was wondering if anyone has used the hypertech Max Energy E-con? (I will only be towing a foxbody mustang most the time, maybe a boat) Is it a good option? Also was thinking about the banks exhaust with the power elbow, good? Thanks for any input, and glad I am finally here
Welcome! Any pics of the beast? You will love the power of the 7.3! I got mine with 270,000 miles on it and still runs and shifts like new knock on wood! If you plan on towing I would invest in a good set of pillar guages, EGT's and trans temp are very important when towing! Good luck with the truck! You'll soon get P.M.S.- Powerstroke moding syndrome!
Not yet, but ill get some soon, so it seems a no to the hypertech e con, and looks like most of you guys like the MBRP exhaust over the banks. Is there a reason for that? Are either one of them loud inside the EX?
Welcome to the 7.3 club. You'll find a lot of great info on the Diesel 7.3 board. I don't recall seing anyone running the hypertech but don't take my word for it. You can save a bunch of money if you install the Walker Big Truck Muffler. There are a bunch of guys including myself running that and I love it. It's got a good sound but not too loud.
There are some suspension threads in this section that have alot of great info and the "1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel" form has tons of great info on the engine.
As far as aftermarket exhaust is concerned, most folks use brands other than Banks since you can get the same performance for less $. Same goes for performance chips/programmers. Much better off with custom tunes than the one size fits all items.
