Towing upgrade?

Towing upgrade?
I have a 1988 F250 stock xlt lariat with axel code 39. I intend to do a couple of towing trips a year of about 700 miles return taking me over the casscades towing a fairly light load under 4000 lbs.. Do i need any towing upgrade or is what i have ok?

You did not say if it was auto trans. If it is auto I would put an auxilary trans cooler (with fan). A trans temp guage and a pyro - some of the hills are a bit steep. Other than going to larger exhaust, and removing the "soup bowl" in the intake (plenty of threads on this) their is not much I would do.

If it's an auto, you can get a water temp guage from your local parts place - get on that reads to 280, mount it in the out let tube from the trans. The trans cooler and fan can run around 180 (mine is mounted in my bumper thats why the fan) can turn it on when it gets to 180 or so. Your local muffler shop can do the exhaust, muffler or not is up to you, but get a straight thru (see thru) run 2 1/2 min with dualls. The soup bowl is just a cut out job (search for threads on how to do). Hope this helps.
