trans question or 2

my truck starts and goes in reverse but when i put it in drive it rattles and dies.i know very little about a trans.(almost nothing) i have a guy telling me that it sounds like a shift cylonoid sticking causing my problem. does anybody know about this? and what do i need if it is my problem?

Sounds like the torque converter is locking up when you put it in gear. Get the codes read otherwise we are just guessing.

It had 3 codes. I can't remember the numbers. They don't deal with the trans. 1 was iat low (I think) 1 was for the dual alternator and the other was ebpv

I have a guy bringing a big scanner over later. Is there anything we need to look for that mite shed a little light on my problem?

possible update

last night i unhooked the batteries. i hooked them back up after work. the evo said pcm not responding..
i have been researching and read about 15 pages of threads on trannys. a few had pcm problems....

so next question.... where is the pcm located and what do i need to do with it? reflash or replace????

Nevermind. I know where the pcm is. I don't know what I was thinking last night. Will a reflash fix the problem?

I would make sure the PCM plug has a good connection and tight under the hood, then see if the code comes back.

I'm no expert by far. But the little wheels in my head are turning. (They may be turning wrong) after a programmer is removed it leaves traces behind. My truck was chipped by the PO. He removed the chip then when I got it I put a old hypertech programmer in it. I have removed it and upgraded to the edge evo. Has all the programmers confused my pcm????
