While on vacation, the light on the gear shift selector that indicates if you are in overdrive, started flickering. It is a 1993 E350 motor home with a 7.5 and a AOD trans. Has anyone had this problem?

if you have a 7.5, you do NOT have an AOD or AODE. You have an E4OD. The AOD never found its way into anything bigger than an F150. And it shouldn't have found its way into that.
Is it blinking or flickering?
The blinking light indicates the transmissions has detected a fault and is dropping into 'limp' mode. This causes very harsh shifts, and is attempting to protect the transmission from slipping/damage. You need to find someone with the proper tools to pull diagnostic information from the van. The issue could be anything from a simple sensor failure to the first stages of full mechanical transmission failure.
If its flickering, then you may have connector or harness issues. Thats different.
Yes, I'm pretty sure there are hidden codes sometimes, but not sure if there would be back as far as 93. Someone here will know. If not, post in electrical issues. There are some real gurus over there.
If it is flickering and not blinking at a steady rate the problem may be a worn wire in the shift column. Take the plastic cover off of the steering column and inspect the wires where they enter the shift handle. One or more of them are most likely worn through and shorting.
Agree this "1993 E350 motor home with a 7.5" almost certainly has an E4OD b/c it has an OD light & the optional tranny on E-350 cutaway/RV was 3 speed. Also agree on blinking codes vs. flickering diagnosis, b/c AOD didn't even have an OD light. However, let's clear up AOD applications.

According to FORD, the AOD found its way into E-150, arguably "bigger than an F150" & found its way into the "bigger" capacity '92 E-250 w/5.0L. The AOD also found its way into the Lincoln Towncar which outweighs "an F150".
