Rough running, no power
I have a 2001 F-350 w/ 7.3L. Today i started her up and the check engine light was on and she was running really rough. maybe a miss... I have no idea where to start. all help in needed please!

well i went and changed the Cam position sensor and all the problems went away. I have a friend that owns a shop who only works on 7.3 and 6.0's. He was talking about checking my air gap and the retaining bolt on the cam. he told me after awhile the bolt will start to form a flat spot and causes the cam to walk a little.

If the CEL was/is on, best to get the codes read. Auto parts scanners won't work. With out a scanner, you could check UVCH connections with an ohm meter. The link is long, but very informative.

If the problem comes back, check the UVCH issue as linked above. The cam walking was more of an issue on the OBS trucks than the super duty's. If you replaced the CPS with an aftermarket unit, keep an eye on it next time it rains to make sure it doesn't spit and sputter on you.
