The IP wiring harness is not grounded for a 4.9L but is for all V8's.

Glad you mentioned the difference. Now, C101 appears to be the bulkhead connector so the ground shown "should" be in the engine harness, right? Thus the cluster harness should be pinned accordingly and the clusters still interchangable?

Yes the clusters are interchangeable.
I think the ground takes place in the engine harness.

Had me a bit worried about finding a 4.9L cluster there for a minute!

I just added a diagram to show that in my last post above. You might have to hit reload to see it.

Does anyone know if a gauge cluster from a 1991 ford explorer would fit in a 1989 F150? they look the same from the pics I've looked at

Doubt it. I am fairly sure they are different in size.

Good question, I have a 93 Explorer and 89 Bronco2, never checked over compatibility of the clusters from the F-series.

Going to check it out tommaro as now as I am curious.....

I swapped a '96 gauge cluster into my '95 and it seems to be working great so far *knocks on wood* Both trucks had the 4.9l engine. I have pictures of the two clusters on my build thread here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ld-thread.html

You don't even need the cluster. Just get the tach module and gauge module out of a tach cluster and put them into yours. It'll work, my buddy with a 4.9 did it.

So I have a 97 F250HD. If I want to change out the cluster to have a tach I need to get one from a 96-97 Bronco/F150/F250/F350? 94-95's wouldn't work?

5 years has passed

I realize five years has passed. I’m looking for a little tech-support here with my 94 F150. I have a 92 cluster.

Can anyone hold my hand on what modifications I would need to do to my 92 tach cluster to get it to work in my 94?

It will not charge or run properly with the 92 cluster in.

I swapped the 94 cluster without any of the gauges back in and it runs properly

Thanks in advance.
