Do the instrument clusters interchange, physically and electronically*, between all '87 - '96 trucks? Or was there a change in '92 with the 9th gen truck (even though it's pretty much just a 8th gen with different lipstick).
*I am aware that the oil pressure guage sender changed in 1990 or so, making the gauge more of a glorified idiot light than a real gauge.
The reason I'm asking is that I want to find a cluster at the junkyard with a tach, and so I need to know what age-range of trucks are suitable donors.
Speedo changed to electronic in '92. 92-93 clusters will only work in 92-93 trucks and Broncos, and 94-96 will work only on 94-96 trucks and Broncos. That is without wiring modifications.

You're semi correct...
1992-1993
1994-1995
1996
The pinouts are different between the models of clusters...
So a 1995 f-150 gauge cluster will not work in my 1997 250? Both are gas engines, one being a 302, the f-150 and a 351 in my 250.
The size of the engine does not matter. Other than if it is 6-cyl you do not ground the tachometer.
The 94-95 cluster has a RABS problem in the 96-97 trucks. Other than the RABS it woks IIRC.
