I got in the truck yesterday and the speedo didn't work, or the odometer. The dome light was not working and the overdrive light is flashing on the shifter. Fuse problem? any ideas? I was checking fuses but they looked ok, it has to be a fuse. we had alot of rain for a few days.
I had the same problem with a 94 F250 4x4 460 AT. It was a blown maxi fuse in the under hood fuse box. It happened again and I found a bare wire coming out of that box. I happened when it was raining/muddy. I fixed the wire and have had no problems since.
I just posted a thread on this today! I have the SAME EXACT symptoms. First thing suggest was to replace the VSS. So I'm picking that up tonight and I'll let you know if that fixes it. Slow steps. I'm making sure I take care of the easy stuff before tackle something behind the dashboard. My dome light isn't working either. WE have the same exact thing going on. Here's my thread posted 5 minutes ago.
Glad to hear it's working now. I'll check #8 fuse. where is the VSS located.
Oh mine, its on the rear differential. Just a quick turn with a 1/2" socket took it out.
Autozone guy said it was on the catalog as an ABS speed sensor. It should look like have a 90 degree bend to it.
Fixed the O/D light. Which fixed the shifting. Truck actually shifts gears now and I don't have to fill up the tank every couple of days
The #8 fused fixed a lot of problems for me. Buzzer, light that turns on when I open the door, odometer/speedo.
Fixed now. It was the #8 fuse and I also changed the speed sensor on the rear end. Had the codes pulled and they said it was the speed sensor and it needs the o2 sensor replaced.

It should be before the cat. I'll order it from Rockauto.com
Follow up on how hard/easy this was. I don't mind replacing a bunch of stuff on my truck because who knows when anything was replaced. Original owner didn't even know when he changed the oil and he had the car for 2 years.
