got my truck back today, just a few things, it has a real bad exhaust leak, my banks sidewinder magically disappeared and is no where to be found, the truck wont go over 70, takes 2 or 3 times longer then before to get to highway speed, blows greyish black smoke thicker then any truck i have ever seen and not in a good way, drove it about 60 miles and im guessing i got about 10mpg was geting right about 21 before, and my wipers dont work cause he crushed the wiper motor when droping the engine in... he said if he cant find my turbo he'd buy me a new one( well duh) and also said if anythings wrong with it he would fix it, looks like were gonna be close friends...
wow what a nightmare.i have a bad feeling it's not going to be made right in the end.so i agree with Bonanza,it's time to lawyer up.
there's no way a guy like this is going to be buying you a new banks turbo willingly.
you want a good mechanic to fix the truck now.this guy gets the bill.
i took my truck up there today and the guy had me ajust the fuel screw on the back of the pump and told me that would give it more power (big surprise it didint to crap) i can get the truck to do 75 if im going down hill, ive been having fun smoking people out at least, but today i got to looking at it and the sticker where it says hp torque and displacement and all that good jazz is rubbed off, also it has a 6.9 style fill tube for the oil, how could i tell if its a 6.9 with out tearing into it? cause i really wouldn't put it past the guy to sell me a 6.9 as a 7.3
heres a video of the truck rolling some coal, i have to have it to the floor to get it moving <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/v7vBcS5dH4E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The head bolts are smaller on a 6.9, the 6.9 filler neck was unique only to the 6.9....the 6.9 in 1987 had the 7.3 style filler neck. I would definitely be suing this dude...take everything from him or something, this is just wrong.
Did some digging and stamped in the block on the right side near the timing gear is a number it starts with 7.3 for 7.3 and same for 6.9 sure enough it starts With 6.9d... double checked on both of my friends 7.3's and his both say 7.3 then a number
I prefer the 6.9 if I don't know engine history. Less chance of having a cavitation issue. That is way I put a 6.9 in my '89. Just make sure it is '85.5 or later, preferably '87. But the way yours is running it doesn't sound like it is right any way you look at it.
Sue the *******. Your turbo magically disappeared? What kind of shop is this guy running?
My friends mom once had to repo her own vehicle from a mechanic. Well from his storage unit. Why it was even there to begin with is crazy. Brought the cop they opened to unit and she towed it away. She does have her normal mechanic which does do good work and doesn't screw people over.
