Question DECISIONS - DECISIONS

What would YOU do?

My Extended Warranty runs out this coming August. The truck has only 55,000 miles on it and was purchased in August 2005. I have gotten prices to extend the ExtraCare contract from 2/24k up to 4/48k more years/miles and prices from about $1300 - 2000. My question is:
Should I extend the warranty at all because of the few miles I put on the truck from year to year - if so which deal.... lowest miles or higest? OR - not renew and be able to remove the Ford Gold coolant and replace it with ELC? I already had Ford replace the coolers and head gaskets and while in there, they installed the ARP studs. My coolant/oil temps are well within the 15* spread.... about 6-7, even while towing my 30' 5th wheel. I do have a coolant filter installed.

What would YOU do? Thanks for all or any that respond.

If you aren't in a position to do work yourself, I'd go the 4/48k option for $2k. $500 a year isn't bad for having a warranty. As far as the Ford Gold, just keep the coolant filter and don't let the coolant get too old, I'd change it every 3/60k rather than 5/100k.

If you have the abaility, tools an the know how to wrench on it yourself. I would keep my 2000 in the bank for parts an ride on. But, of you can't wrench on it yourself , for whatever reason, I wood get the 4/48k warranty plan an ride on.

Just my.03$

At the young age of 72, it's getting a lot harder to do my own wrenching except for the regular stuff like oil and such.... Just bought a new VW Passat TDI with the way extended warranty which includes even that for the next 7 years!

Lol. I heard ya. I think at 72 ( hope I live to see 72 ) I would pay for the 4/48k warranty. Just for the piece of mind that I'm covered if something does go wrong.

I think especially if you use the truck for extended trips the warranty is nice to have. That way it can get repaired at any dealership rather than having to find a place to do your own wrenching or pay high shop rates.

So far it's 2-0. Better to have the warranty than to not and be able to mod the truck.

I just got the 4/48,000 esp on mine for 2480. Good till Jan, 2016. Even includes a free rental car if they keep it overnight. Same boat as you. 50,000 miles on my 2005. This coverage compliments my AAA RV ins. If it breaks down both can be towed up to 200 miles. Makes me feel good when I'm away from home and have the 5er behind me. Peace of mind has no price tag.

I think if you plan to keep the truck the 4/48 sounds like a good deal. "BUT" i would try talk to Ford warranty dept. about the ARP studs and coolant filter and the affect it could have on your warranty. If any.

$2000 that is pretty close to the set of injectors I need.... without labor If mine didn't have close to 200k on it when I bought it I would be getting a warranty

As the Ford dealer installed the studs, I'm not too worried ! The coolant filer is a non-worry item.

Yup... everything is still original.... 'cept for the ARP's and the coolant filter. I did have to replace the original batteries last year.

OH!! OK...see where you are going there.. If any of them go, it'll be worth the cost of the warranty. OK - OK -- Looks like Troy gets more of my $! LOL
