Oil temp questions

Hey guys was looking for some input. I just recently installed a edge cts. I'm out on the road working and I'm noticing a 15-20 degree delta in my ECT and EOT. My normal temps while going down the highway at 75mph are 206-210 Ect and 215-230 EOT. When I stop to work the truck cools down while idling within 10 degrees of each other.I'm hauling about 3000lb in the bed and pulling about 3500 all the time. The temp here is 80-90 here most of the time. I just haven't ever monitored the temps while pulling before and didn't know if this is normal or it's time for another cooler. I replaced mine 3 years ago at about 130,000 and installed a coolant filter at the same time. I now have 307,500 so it might be time.

Do you also replace the egr cooler AND the engine oil cooler? Are you blowing coolant out the fill bottle? Or losing coolant? Those temps look high... replaced your thermostat yet?

What are the temps NOT pulling those weights? Level ground, engine up to temp and steady MPH at 60-65MPH?

Nah I'm not loosing any coolant. I replaced the Oil Cooler at 130,000 miles at 307,500 now. My Egr Cooler is deleted and the motor is studded. I just put a new motocraft thermostat in the Napa one was running too cool in the winter. When I'm not towing or hauling my temps usually run around 190 ECT 195-200 EOT cruising down the highway.

What coolant are you running and what type of coolant flushes have you done before or after your last oil cooler change?

I use the Zerex ELC coolant. when flushing I would drain and fill 6 gal at a time with distilled water. Initially after the oil cooler failed I ran dawn dish soap on high idle for 30 min at a time drain and refilled 3 times. Then I stuck the hose in the degass bottle and pulled the radiator drain and ran on high idle for like 2 hours until the murky stuff came out and the water was running out clear.

Did you pull the thermostat to do that? Hope so.

Some have had luck with a highway VC-9 flush to lower the delta. Here's a link for thought.

I don't think there's any need to get it on the highway. In fact, if you remove the thermostat as instructed, then on the highway the flush won't reach operating temps required for it to work properly. Just remove the thermostat and do the flush on high idle for 60-90 minutes and it should work better. I found it takes almost 30 minutes to reach operating temps, so I ended up running each flush on high idle for almost 2 hours.

Yup She's been a good truck all I've done in these miles is Headstuds twice, oil cooler, Egr Delete, 2 injectors, Y pipe, turbo, transmission, glowplugs, and rear end rebuild haha. But honestly I beat the **** out of this truck 50-75,000 miles a year and I like it a heck of a lot more than the 2 dodge cummins I worked before. Honestly when the wheels fall off this one I'll get another one and do all the same mods. I want no part of the newer 6.4 or 6.7. I'd hate to spend $55,000 on a truck and then have Ford drop a deuce on my chest with that $20,000 HPFP repair that they wont cover under warranty. Plus The longest it would be under warranty for me is a year and a half the way I drive.

A little update. I pulled the radiator today and it was clogged top to bottom with dirt, grass seed and leaves. I do a lot of pasture driving and the truck idles on the sites while I'm mowing so it sucks up a lot of crap. So I cleaned that, ran a VC9 flush, after doing all that my temps came back down to a 5-8 degree delta. I ran the **** out of it loaded afterwards and I couldn't get my ECT any higher than 200 which normally it hangs out at 210 while driving nice. Its a lot better. What was crazy is that I flushed it a few times before I ran the VC9 and the water was flushing out clear. After running that stuff it came out black 5 or 6 flushes. That stuff gets it done I guess.

What is the story behind "head studs twice"? What gaskets did you use?

Congrats on 300K+ miles w/ your 6.0!!
