I want to add an H pipe on 70 360 f-100 this weekend, dual exhaust 2.5 inch pipe. Things I have learned off the net, paint exhaust pipes start truck so I can find hot spots. If spots are in different spots connnect H pipe in between the spots. The H pipe should be smaller than the exhaust pipe tubing, if this is true how much smaller. Is this correct, is there anything else I need to know before installing. Thanks!
360, If you take a close look under your truck you will see that between the exhaust manifold or header outlet and rear of the transmisson it is a close fit. I had to fabricate a "V" shaped pipe under the tailshaft housing which was the only place I had practical clearance. I have Dynomax intermediate headers on the 429 with 2.5 pipes and genaric turbo mufflers which are really loud. An "H" is a good thing to have as it balances the pulses, however I like the "X" version better which is what I have on my 67 XL. Dyno tests prove the "X" performs better, also has a much better sound. My car has JBA shorty headers,Bassini "X" 2.5 pipes and stock Mustang GT mufflers . They do not "drone" at cruising speed but really bark when I nail it. Thats my humble opinion. Kenny Nunez

I thought about an x pipe but figure for now an h pipe would be easier to install. I took my headers off for now due to starter issues. I want to put them back on once I get a mini starter, really pita with a regular starter. I know about having to due the v piece, put in a new exhaust sytem a few months ago. Also looked at some kits and the have a v curved piece to get around under carriage. How did you know where tto install the x pipe or did you just install where you could.
Maybe I should fab. the x pipe this weekend and install next weekend.
360, The only place that looked practical was just under the tail shaft near the driveshaft. If your truck is a long bed there is a little more room. My truck is a short bed. I wrapped my headers with the special wrapping material. I had a muffler shop make a set of ball and open flanges to take up for misalinment. Kenny Nunez

I wrapped mine and made a heat shield but my start keep heating up so I took them off. Bad thing was the headers where not the problem, electric issue. If I drove the truck for a 1/2 hour I would have wait for an hour or more befroe starter would cool enough to start. I do have a long bed so I do have a little extra room. Did some more searching here is what I found.
360 , I had my XL out tonight , I just love that "X" pipe sound! I checked out that video, Thanks. Kenny Nunez
Yea I like that sound myself, I'm leaning towards the x pipe mostly for the sound and flow. Doing some more searching I will add more info as I gather it for me and others. How much did the shop charge you for there work if you don't mine me asking, thanks.
I have a good relationship with the muffler shop as I have been doing business with then for 30+ years, It was around 20. It was 6 years ago, I did all the welding in my garage. In January of 09 they did the pipes on my 67 XL from the "X" pipe back for $225. Kenny Nunez

Ok thanks! I have a welder and did my own exhaust system. Pretty simple straight back them I cheated and used flex tube to curve tail pipe out the back sides of the truck. I have borla mufflers which are straight thur without chambers. I might just try an H pipe for now since they seem to work well with this muffler design. My time is limited this weekend that would be the easy way to go. I can always switch to x pipe when I get around to putting the headers back on and have more time. There is a speed shop near me I want to go this weekend, might have to see what they have to offer before I make the final decision.
