Hey Everyone,
I'm in need of a Y-pipe for my 1982 F250.
The specs are, 351w, 4WD M/T reg cab 8 foot bed
I just replaced my starter and i am thinking it went bad because the stock y pipe has a hole in it right above the starter blowing nice hot exhaust all over it. now any ideas? dual exhaust or an aftermarket y pipe? i cannot really find too much on the good ol' internet. i know running dual is problematic because of the transfer case but cannot find a y pipe with a larger diameter for aftermarket headers. i want to do a 2.5 inch exhaust all the way back but finding this y pipe is the only thing holding me back. Any information is much appriciated
I was thinking about having one fabbed up, i would need matching flanges with what ever header i decide on getting though wouldn't I?
and yes its the old, rusted through original y pipe haha
You should be able to find one in better shape at a junkyard. I'm sure most header companies will sell you the proper flanges to have welded on to your Y-pipe, if they don't already come with the header when you buy it.
You might be time ahead having one fabbed up, especially if you are looking for a bigger one. I recently picked one up off of a 460 (for my 351) after looking for weeks at different salvage yards. It has big diameter pipe, and a good Y. I am still cutting, welding, and trying to fab it up. The factory Y-pipe on our trucks sucks! You are adding headers into the equation, and your Y-pipe is going to be your cork in the exhaust.
