When I went out to my Excursion this afternoon I discovered that some douche nozzle(s) had destroyed my stereo radio antenna & also my ham radio antenna & its bracket, by bending them into a pretzel shape.
So I need to remove & replace the factory radio antenna. I tried twisting the stock radio antenna off to just unscrew it, and it seemed to get looser, but then got tighter again. I didn't want to try twisting it too hard in case I broke the mount. So, does the stock antenna just screw off, or do I need to access a nut under the cowl area or something.
And, since I need to replace the antenna, does anyone know the stock part number? And can anyone recommend any cool stubby antennas that work well? I don't really listen to the radio at all, but would like something to fill the hole, and still enable me to use the radio under rare circumstances e.g. emergencies or unusual traffic situations.
X 2, it just skrews off. I cut my factory antenna down and put the ball back on the end. Looks stock but shorter. I only cut a few inches but you could go down as low as you want. I lost no reception in doing this.
I just broke my antenna base by breaking off the adapter for a shorter antenna. The company did not machine the adapter appropriately. It was nearly 20 mils to large. Now my $20 antenna mod is looking more like $50.
