Newbie looking for help??

Hi, My '78 F-150 LWB, 2 wheel drive, 460 with a C-6 is in the body shop now awaiting a nice fresh coat of Ford RED candy apple paint. All the glass is out and I need new rubber for the windshield and back glass. I have heard some bad stories about bad fitting rubber parts. I have bought most of my stuff from LMC and a little from Dennis Carpenter. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.. Also has any one ever bought one of the new steel grill shells from LMC. My '78 is a late model with square headlights? Thanks in advance

LMC grill shells suck. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Dennis carpenter grill shells are great. As for rubber I get mine from Jeff's bronco graveyard and never had a problem. I don't like to many things from LMC truck because They are kind of cheap.

I've never heard any good about aftermarket grill shells. Everyone says they look like they were painted chrome silver with a paint brush. I've used LMC's rear window rubber and no complaints. For your windshield I don't know if I'd trust them. I'd just ask your glass co. where to get one if they don't have one.

I also have used the lmc rear window seal, it's just fine and on my truck right now. As for grille shells, I'd say to find a nice oem shell and polish it to perfection. A lot of these new chrome grilles, ect are made cheaply overseas and tend to rust quickly.

Does your 1978 have windshield reveal mouldings? If so be aware that there are two different types of windshield weatherstrips: With or without the reveal mouldings.

D3TZ-1003110-F .. Windshield Weatherstrip-Use without windshield reveal mouldings.

Applications: 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco.
-------------------------------------------------
D7TZ-1003110-B .. Windshield Weatherstrip-Use with windshield reveal mouldings.

Applications: 1977 F100/350 from serial number O80,001, 1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1977 F100/350 from serial number O80,001, 1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco:

The windshield reveal moulding (D7TZ-1003148-A) is a one piece flexible plastic chrome assembly that has an adhesive backing, so it glues on.

The length of this moulding is 72 1/4" and it's a straight piece, so it has to be bent at the corners.
================================================== =======================
NOTE: The same scenario also applies to the back glass: With or without reveal mouldings, so there are two different weatherstrips.

D3TZ-1042084-A .. Back Glass Weatherstrip-Use without reveal mouldings.

Applications: 1973/79 F100/350.
-------------------------------
D7TZ-1042084-A .. Back Glass Weatherstrip-Use with reveal mouldings.

Applications: 1977 F100/350 from serial number O80,001, 1978/79 F100/350.

The back glass uses a similar one piece flexible plastic chrome moulding. This moulding is not the same as used for the windshield.

Carpenter has all these parts and his 1967/79 truck repro parts catalog uses Ford part numbers to ID them. Call 800-476-9653 and order the puppy, it's free.

btw: I didn't list the Ford part number for the back glass flexible chrome moulding, cuz Carpenter uses a "made up" Ford part number, as it's sold as a kit.

I noticed the seals for revealed moldings didn't include the 73-76 trucks. If I remember correctly, they used a wider reveal molding in 73-76?

Stainless steel reveal mouldings: 1973/76 and 1977 before serial number O80,001. Use D3TZ-1003110-E w/shield w/strip.

A man in the glass business told me that the OEM glass is better than the aftermarket, go figure eh? IIRC he said the OEM is thicker, I don't know what other differences there may be.

I live 20 minutes from LMC in Lenexa KS and I go there quite frequently. Some of the items they carry come directly from Dennis Carpenter. Alot of the other items come from overseas. Fortunately for me, I can swing by the counter and inspect every part I purchase. My advice is to purchase the weatherstripping from Dennis Carpenter. I do like LMC but the aftermarket parts are not always high quality.
