Finally Gonna Do It

So I have been talking about fixing the injectors and turbo for a while, but I just bought a new 5er so I have to fix it now.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the stand pipes and dummy plugs? I want to order them Monday along with the injectors. The plan is to pick up the 5er and then fix the truck before we get to traveling.

I was also thinking about sending the FICM to Ed and have the atlas 40 put in, will that work in conjunction with my Gear Head Tunes or is it stand alone. I like Matts tow tune and think the PHP FICM tune would work well with that and a Power Max. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I am excited to get back to camping again.

Dummy rail plugs are W302908. I am looking for the stand pipes for you b/c they are on my to-do list as well. I think you will need a 10mm or 12mm allen for these. - Dan

Sarge,

I found this in another post somewhere: They are now only serviced with a new stand-pipe kit (part# 6E7Z-9A332-B) that includes new stand-pipes and dummy plugs with the o-rings assembled. It is a Ford part number and runs about $100. It should be all you need (just 1 kit). I have notes on this but they are a mess - I think some years require 12mm allen and others require the 10mm allen, both of which are usually not in your standard allen set. I found a cheap set at Northern Tool that included both. Good luck - Dan

The updated parts will require a 12mm allen wrench.

Just finished my stand pipes, could not get my hands on a 12 mm allen, but ended up using a T60

12mm allen wrench - Both Northern tool and harborfreight have them from time to time. If you see it, ****** it - it will be gone when you come back.

I need a 17mm for a differential plug - still looking for that one.

This is a handy reference:

2005 6.0L Bible Update Table of Contents

The standpipes and dummy plugs are discussed in the High-Pressure-Oil sections

Here comes a pretty weak explanation:

The Ford 6.0L diesel is known for high pressure oil leaks causing no starts and leaving you stranded. The snap-to connect (STC) fitting on the high pressure oil pump is the main culprit and has been upgraded. The standpipes and dummy plugs were other sources of leaks and they have been upgraded as well (teflon o-rings or something like that). They are found under the valve covers. They are part of the parts upgrades that go a long way toward Bulletproofing the 6.0. These upgrades by the way are put out by Ford - not aftermarket - an effort to undo a number of weaknesses to the engine.

I did not have a 12mm allen key. But instead have a sump plug key set - this had the correct one.
