Door seals

I was looking around the 6.7 site yesterday and came across a mod to tighten up the door seals on our trucks. There is a video that shoes how to insert some surgical tubing into the bulb of the existing seal. I did this to my 08 f350 last night and what a difference. I had some mysterious door rattles that disappeared as well as the truck is quieter. It is probably the easiest mod I have done to the truck that made that much difference. You should check it out.

I did the same thing a month or 2 ago, and man it is awesome. It makes it sound as quiet as my buddies Porsche! Best $32 mod I ever did.

I saw a post about that and wondered as well. But when I climed in the other day, I looked briefly and didn't see any existing opening to insert tubing. I'll look for that thread.

Take your baseplate off and the seal starts at the middle of your door under that. The seal will have a flat spot (on the innermost side) and then 2 diamond shaped openings. Put the tube thru the innermost opening.

Just did my driver's door. My seal was in pretty good shape, so the door is really snug now. 3/8" latex tube may not be the best for every situation, as I have to shut the door pretty hard now to get it to close all the way.

I used 5/16" OD, 1/4" ID latex. I tell everyone who gets in my truck you have to shut the door like a hummer.

I did this exact thing with my trailblazer and it helped a lot but like someone else has mentioned it does make the doors harder to close. I went to home depot and just bought the clear tubing they had. I also bought a fish tape, and wire lube. These two things make this job much easier. I took my seal all the way off and straightened it out on the garage floor. Squeeze some of the wire lube into one end of the seal and use electrical tape or something of the like to fasten the hose onto the fish tape. Stick it in one end and slide it to the other. I cut it off 1/4 inch shorter than what is needed and then sealed the end off with silicone so the tube can not move around.
