EPIC's Door Seal Modification

Many thanks to EpicCowlick and his door seal modification. I did the mod today and ran some errands and guess what? My annoying back right door 'rattle' is gone! I think I may have barely heard it one time. Yeah, I know, it's only been 15 miles but all was quiet inside the cab. Another nice thing, the back left door always has to be closed a little harder than the rest of the doors. Now they're all a little harder to close. All uniform now! Thanks again Epic for all your info.

Pretty amazing mod isn't it? Showed it to my brother who has an 08 and now he wants me to drive 400 miles to help him with it (not a computer user).

Thanks for the props guys but I can't take credit for the original idea. I read about it right here on FTE years ago. I just video'd the process and come to think of it, it was the very first truck vid I did. The best part of the mod is that it works on so many makes and models. I frequently get notes of appreciation from truck owners all across the board, not just Fords.

That's funny, I did the Epic door seal mod on Saturday, also. It was my very first mod on my 1 week old truck and chose to do this first since it was an easy one. Nice tight doors now.

Ordered the tubing right from the link in an earlier post about the door mod. Easy! I wonder if Amazon or Leisure Pro should give Epiccowlick some type of royalties for all the 3/8 tubing orders they received because of the video and direct link.

Thanks Epic for the "videoed" mod and being so humble.

Never even noticed the disclaimer at the bottom of the page that it would not be a continuous piece. Mine came with 1 joint in it and worked out fine, it had a wrap of tape on it and pulled right in the weatherstrip. I did the project solo and made up for the lack of a helper with more silicone spray.

This post is the first I'm hearing of this mod... where is the original post? I have a rattle in my rear driver door that I have not been able to figure out for two years!

This is the great thing about these forums. Knowledge is power and the door seal mod will fix that rattle (assuming it's not something loose inside the door).

By the way, I just watched that video again and wow, it's pretty poor quality. It was recorded on an old PDA phone and published with Windows Movie Maker. I guess it gets the point across but I sure do prefer the quality of the GoPro camera and Adobe video editing software.

Sweet! Just watched the video... looks pretty straightforward. Just need to order some tubing I guess.

As far as the lubricant, would WD-40 work?

Some have struggled with WD40 as it evaporates pretty quickly, others say it's fine. Some people have used dish washing soap and water. Lots of options. The silicone spray worked fine for me.

Good to know.

As far as color, does it really matter? I haven't gone to look at my truck yet, but I'm guessing that you can't see the tube once the seal is re-installed, right? I found a site that sells 50' for $29 (+ $8 shipping) but they don't have color options.

It doesn't matter. It's sitting inside the molding and no one will ever see it.

I used Du-Pont teflon silicone as a lubricant and it worked fine. I found the main key to remember is to get the molding as straight as possible when pulling the tubing through.
