Aussie newb
Been a while since I've jumped on here but it's time the truck gets a little loving. I've done pretty much nothing to it except drive it but it's rego time and a few things need some attention.
I need a new clutch and some new shocks. I'm still shopping around locally for a clutch and if nothing eventuates, I'm eying off this Hays super duty kit. Any opinions on these as I've never had one before?

This is the local kit I've found. Keep in mind my truck has a 4 speed with external slave, not the 5 speed with internal slave.

For shocks I'm as much up in the air. So far price wise, key factor here as I'd much rather be spending money on my Mustang to get it together, is either Gabriels from here in Aus or KYB Momomax from Summit. Any advice or personal preference?
I've got some new tyres coming in this week. I went with the Maxxis 751's. 99% of my driving is on road.I got our local dealer to match the prices on ebay which I'm happy with.
I've finally given in on the LPG injection. It simply doesn't want to find a happy ground with the trucks electronics. I haven't even used in it about 3 months. It's been cheaper and runs better to use petrol. I'm going to rip it out and put the oldschool venturi style of LPG back in. Another job on the to do list.
Running it on petrol has actually been very surprising. On some runs I've got as good as 13L/100 while towing a trailer. I thought that was damn impressive.
Cheers
Re: shocks. Check out this promo: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...er-rebate.html
With the rebate, you should get 9000XL's for cheaper than the KYB's from 4wheelonline, and they are better shocks (and adjustable).
I can't help you with the clutch, sorry.
I had a look and Amazon wont send to Aus. It looks like the 4wheelonline.com might possibly post but they wont say for sure unless I contact them.
Summit have them too and they will send. Which is good as I can get some other gear from them too.
Aus dealers are not even close and don't advertise the rebate.
I'm trying to figure out the correct part numbers but I think I have run into a hurdle. It looks like these 91 F150's came with the quad shock option. Mine is only fitted with single shocks on the front. And they look completely stuffed after I just stuck my head under there. But I can see the mounts for top and bottom, front and back for the quad set-up.
Question though, if they only use the single shock set-up, should it be in front of or behind the axle? Going by what I read on the parts listing, single shock should be aft or rear of the axle. I this correct? Mine has them fitted in front.
Springs here in Aus start around $215 but I can't find any as yet for my model, only earlier years.
The new clutch should be here tomorrow. I went with the Aussie one.
I stated polishing up one of the new rims I got for the truck. You can see the one on the right to show the condition I got them in. I only got to 2000 grit, I had to order some more paper in to finish the process.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
The new springs and shocks all round, including changing the fronts to quads, has raised the truck at least 4 inches all round. That's how bad the old stuff was.
Also put in a new clutch, had the flywheel machined after it came out looking like this. While I was at it the hydraulic master crapped itself so it too is now rebuilt. The whole truck drove completely different, it was great.

I also built a new exhaust. I purchased some mandrel bends to cut up and used my TIG which was a first for me with mild steel. A mate had some left over stainless bends from a Magnaflow kit he put on his 68 Mustang so I used them as the shiny/bling tips out the back. Getting all the angles correct was a bit of a tough one but I'm happy with the end result. It looks good and performs heaps better than before as it was previously a single system from in front a single catalytic convetor, all the way out the back. It's now a twin system front to back and pulls much better from 2500rpm and up.

Next job is to fix up the front drive shaft uni joints so that the 4x4 will work. Then go do some beach fishing. After that it's time for a repaint.
Ah yes, the forgotten Mustang. Even my 66 Mustang has now joined the 69 Mustang as a member of the forgotten shed cars. I've got 2 other projects to finish, a horse cart and an enclosed trailer, both of which are almost done. Then it is the trucks turn for paint, then onto the Mustang as nothing else will be in its way and my wife will be happy, fingers crossed, with her new trailer and cart and will let me work on my car for a while.
I'll have it out in a little while so I'll grab some pics if I can. It's pretty ugly looking with that stupid frame on the tray and also a bent bonnet at the moment. But that'll change once the repaint starts.
Also, Grubbworm, I'm not going to use SPI on this truck any more. I'm going with De Beers for two reasons, I haven't had the money or the time to buy SPI over this year to wait for it to come by sea-freight. I had hoped to earlier in the year but I couldn't make the money I had do that unfortunately.
I'm still going with epoxy primer, 2k high fill and a single stage 2k paint to learn the process, just wont be SPI which I'm disappointed with. I'll save the SPI epoxy that I already have for the Mustang as I will have time to wait for the SPI colour to be sent over.
Quick question, how big are those gas tanks each side and do they hang off the chassis or the tray? I'm throwing ideas around to replace my ute tub with a tray and twin gas tanks.
Cheers Brad.
I think each of the tanks are the 80L ones. They take 66 or so litres each to fill from empty. The two side one both hang off the tray. The rear tank is hanging from a welded in cross member to the chassis rails. The left and right tank are joined, it drains the rear tank first. The right tank is on a separate switch, yuo use it like a reserve tank.
It's been a long time now though since I've put LPG in it. At 80ish cents per litre, petrol has been the better option.
