So I already know I'll prob get called just about every name known to this world for asking this, but I'm ok with it. Has anyone seen someone take an ifs dana 50 and turn it into a solid axle? Just one of those things that sits in the back of my mind everytime I look at my dana 50. I know what your thinking... " why not just swap a d60". Well I don't have an answer for it. I have never seen a dana 50 turned solid and think it would be something cool to make that would set a truck off from the rest.
Back in the day there was a company that made a weld on deal that did that. Don't remember anything about it. I think you should do it if & when they ever let you out of the looney bin!

I knew I'd get hell from it but its always just one of those things that sat at the back of my mind. What if I took this ifs axle and welded it up? It really started with my 89 f150 and my brothers 93 f150 both ifs d44. The thing that would really be the issue would being whether to weld the actual two parts together and make a big huge bulky axle and reinforce it in just about every way. Or take just the pumpkin out and weld tubes onto that. Any ideas or suggestions?
You should be able to cut the beams and weld them together and completely get rid of the pivot brackets and everything. Is it crazy? Maybe, but if you do it and it works decent, I don't see anything wrong with it.
A D60 would probably be a better solution for what your doing (aren't you the guy that was going to be sled pulling with it in some other thread?), but money can take that away from anyone. Also, strapping the front end can help with hop if that's what your trying to eliminate. Set some weight down on the front end to load it, strap it tight as he!! and run it.
Not trying to sled pull you have me confused with someone else. But ya I planned on cutting the pivot brackets off and welding it straight. I thought about using a d60 but everyone uses it. Idk just looking to make the truck diff from everyone elses. Not saying I won't end up doing a d60 later or maybe on another truck. But figured this would be something you don't see very often or never
I have seen where others used the IFS as a rear axle! Anything is possable with welder and chopsaw! Post photos when/if you do it. Like me, tooo many projects and not enough time or $$$$

Exactly. Have just about every idea in the book for my truck and it will get there slowly but surely. Its just gonna take some time first I really need to replace the cab corner and sill panel. Prob gonna start a build thread soon for both my trucks. Though so everything will be in there. All organized and what not.
Ya your probably right about that but I still haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. It will prob end up with a solid axle maybe something a little diff though
