I just bought a 92 F250 7.5 and the MIL came on after changing the battery so I bought a Equus 3145 to get the codes and I'm not getting the reader to pull the codes. When I plug in the reader and press the test button I can hear relays and other things clicking but my reader is doing nothing but showing 000 not even having the triangle come up on the screen. I swear there is no corrosion on the connector wires and I've cleaned the contacts with a small screwdriver. Do I have a bad reader or has anyone run into this? I really don't want to send it back but may have to and just count the MIL flashes.
I don't know if it would make any difference but the truck is an early 92 (10/91)
I had the same problem when I bought that exact reader, Equus 3145. It would not work. No corrosion on wires, and I heard things powering up when I plugged it in and also got the zeros, same problems as you. I just returned the thing and had my local shop pull the codes for me for free.
I bought the same tester and had to return it for the exact same reason. I tried two more but none of them would work reliably so finally returned the final one and got my money back. Now I just get the shop to pull the codes for me.
Equus 3145 made in China
Texasguy001 I know the Equus 3145 has been a favorite on the forum. I bought mine after it was recommended to me from a few members. That's why it puzzles me that mine didn't work.
I didn't know any of the Equus testers were made anywhere else but China. All three of mine had a made in China stamp on them. Then again, I did buy them from Canadian Tire. Maybe I'll check them out at Lordco, they may get theirs from a different supplier.
I guess it makes me feel a little better knowing it wasn't just me or my truck in some way. I'd really prefer to use a code reader over the counting lights method so I'm thinking of trying another but from the sounds of it I need a place with a easy return policy, I don't expect Amazon to be a problem with this one though. For what it's worth this unit is made in Taiwan.
So far with only in town stop and go driving I've gotten 8 mpg and with gas prices at $4 I need this truck to be running as close to perfect as possible, I'd like to see at least 10 mpg but that might not be a reality.
I got my replacement in the mail the other day and it works fine other than a couple hash marks missing on the last digit that I can get back on with a gentle squeeze of the screen.
I've been doing some reading about code 41 tonight.

Make sure the test connector is correctly attached to the scanner. On my truck, it will connect right side up or upside down. If the latter, then I get the same symptoms you describe.
