Ok so I did a coolant flush, I flushed it twice, started putting in the new coolant, I put in the coolant itself, I was gonna put my 4 gallons of water in, but I was only able to put 1gallon in, thats 3 gallons short, and now im leeking coolant out of the radiator, what did I do wrong? It looks like its leaking out the top.
to get 50/50 mix you must drain more than radiator
you need to pull driver side block drain plug minimum especialy to get a good flush
hope you put same coolant back in 2 flushes how i think your doing it there is still old coolant in there
as the leak did you undo upper hose at all????????????
with the system properly flushed 6-8 times you add 3.5gallons full strength to get 50/50 a touch strong really after last drain if flushed thuro its all water and basicaly add the 3.5 gallons full strength and top off with water
**** my life... no i put in prestone truck coolant. Yes i loosened it to try and get the air pockets out but i thought it was tight enough. I followed dudes instructioons on youtube the powerstrokehelp.com.. didnt say **** about the. Block drain. I pretty much just wasted $60 on coolant?
this a pretty thuro flushing detail what I remember
And I will give you a little warning here but if your system has a bunch of junk in it you do risk oil cooler plugage its happened and you wont be the first so if you use cleaner like VC-9 the more junk will come loose and the risk of a clogged oil cooler goes up.
Not shure how your deltas are now but if there beyond the 15-20* spec a really thuro flush is recomended as you dont have much to lose.
The deltas almost dictate how thuro of flush you do if good do water rinse outs 5-8 times and add coolant and if there bad deltas use cleaners pull it apart flush everything reverse flush give it the works so if it does come to oil cooler replacment the system is clean
I did a complete flush. Flushed it all, then ran the hose through while it was running, Im guessing 3 gallons of coolant and 3 gallons of tap water and 1 gallon of distilled if that sounds right

oh sounds like you flushed it better than I thought
if you have 3 gallons full strenth coolant installed you shouldnt be to far off of 50/50 mix
the cooling system holds 27.5qt or 6.87 gallons (a hair under 7 gallons)
thats not so bad things are getting better Hang in there Man
from first post maybe I read wrong but thought you only got 2gallons or less coolant in there
Yep I was taking it wrong on how much coolant you put in at first
Distilled water is the most pure water you can get - it has the fewest salts (dissolved solids or ions).
Reverse Osmosis water is next. Then softened water. Then tap water. Actually, softened water just means that the Calcium and Magnesium have been replaced with sodium.
Distilled water is pretty inexpensive and by far the best choice.

Interesting for shurew rhanks Mark
wonder what they got filled with at the assembly plant
Tap water wouldnt scare me at all its not the tap water making them fail folks been throwing any old water in there ride for years. I dont beleive all the sudden the 6.0L comes out and it needs a bottle of Perrier Bottled water to run
they say it is filled w/ distilled water from the factory, but almost all dealerships will use tap water. Ford says it cuts your change interval in half.

Now this right here was kinda why I thought Softwater would be good.
Because with the softwater you can use less soap and Laundry detergent stuff like that it just goes further. I figure that it will have the same afffect on coolant IDK
My water here out the Tap is Pretty Good I have a Big 50gal fish tank and it tests good for them fish I dont have to adjust PH or stuff like that. Had them fish for years my fish are bigger than some folks catch
But I know some folks water out there is Garbage I could tell Horror stories of water conditions in Wyoming certain spots I wouldnt let my DOG drink that nasty stuff LOL
