I don't know if the recommendation if to use Restore and Restore plus before replacing your coolant? I have used VC-9 in the past before replacing my coolant and going to ELC coolant. I didn't have any ill effects as far as higher deltas between ECT and EOT afterwards. My coolant temps now seem to be a tad on the high side. Wanted some opinions before I replace my coolant. Thanks
Kinda ticklish subject. I usually think you should use the chemicals, especially if you are changing coolant types. Given it sounds like your going back with ELC though, it would seem optional to me. I like the idea of using a garden hose and big quantities of tap water and opening up the block drains, then chasing that with distilled water a couple of times before adding coolant.
Although they usually fail towards cooler temps, it may be worth replacing the thermostat and see if that has an effect on temps.
If I remember correctly, the Restore is similar to the VC-9 as an acid based "boiler cleaner" that loosens the corrosion in the system and the Restore Plus is an alkaline based product designed to help remove any silicate based spooge hiding in the system.
In my opinion, if the ect, eot spread is acceptable I would just drain and refill. The cleaner could finish off your oil cooler.
I would tend to agree with this idea. My delta spread was about a 6-10 degree spread before flushing my coolant system. Knowing once doing a flush could send any remaining loose silicate to my cooler. Lasted about a year. I installed a coolant filter before flushing my system and would suggest the same if you haven't already.
I used restore plus and distilled water. Drove my truck around for 2 hours flushed with distilled water and replaced with concentrated ELC coolant. My delta spread is now 4-6 while cruising 65-70 mph.
Go to the tech folder and look it up. There's plenty of great info there on just about everything regarding maintenance and upgrades.
My delta spread is about 6-8 while cruising 65-70 unloaded but my coolant temps while towing on flat roads is about 210. Wondering if using Restore and Restore plus would help drop that but he last thing I want to do is plug up my oil cooler or EGR cooler.

All of that looks good, I would leave it alone if it was me....
How many miles do you have on the Extended life coolant?
I used VC-9 before I switched to Rotella ELC coolant about 2 years ago. I only put about 5 -6000 miles a year on my truck. I use it to mostly pull my 35 ft toyhauler.

With only 10-12,000 miles on your coolant, and it runs 210 degrees while towing.....I wouldn't do anything.
It all sounds good, unless I missed something.
What is your coolant temp while driving unloaded and not towing?
My coolant temps used to run about 200 unloaded 65-70 down the freeway. I decided to try and remove the thermostat and see what my temps would look like then. I now run 190 unloaded 65-70 down the freeway. Running without the thermostat didn't help keep the ECT's down while towing but it seems to cool it down quicker after pulling a grade. I figured the coolant is 2 years old and probably needs to be replaced just to make sure it's doing it's job. Not too bad to do every 2 years.
You're right, there's nothing wrong changing the coolant every 2 years.
So, you are running 210* while towing, and 190* while not towing....with no thermostat installed? Those temps are fine.....with the thermostat installed, but are high with no thermostat.
The thermostat-less temps are OK as far as overall temp goes, but you may want to check water pump/fan operation or maybe internal radiator plugging. The motor's ECT should run roughly 160 - 170 unloaded, with no thermostat.
