C1 Vs. C4

I am looking a having a set of heads rebuilt for a mild 390. I will have CJ valves and hardened seats put in. I have a set of C1AE heads and C4AE heads. Which should I use?

There both a tall port head with 74cc chambers IIRC right.. I have built the C4 heads before and they kick butt on even a cleaned up Edelbrock head with CJ valves in them.."If" the porter is any good..My C4's back a few years ago flowed 302cfm at .700" lift from Les Schmader out of PA. there heads from 61 to mid year 66 are all the same for the 390's and some others..then in 66 they went to the smog head woth the thermactor humps in them , that doesnt help with port work..the can be made to run better..But not as well as the early heads..either head will make a fine choice..But to get full advantage of the CJ size valves..the throat under the bowl needs to be opened up, and from there good port work would be needed to get full advanage out of the iron heads.. But it all depends on where you'd like to go on anything (more mods) if any in the future ..

Keeps us posted ! Good Luck with your build...Next best thing to Sex and Beer !!
