wheels

I have a 1965 ford f100 style side I picked up in Tennesee. I'm looking for original rims that will except smaller metal hubcaps. The hubcaps I have were purchased at Dennis Carpenters but do not fit the wheels on the truck. Does anyone know where I can find four of these wheels/rims for sale?

I think what you are looking for is Outie wheels that will accept a variety of Dog dish hub caps. I found a guy parting out a 79, and bought a set from him. I think sold my old ones to a guy building a 57 Effie Rat Rod. They are the same basic wheels for about 20 years.

What hubcap did the OP buy from Dennis Carpenter for his 1965 F100? What type of wheels does his truck have, innies or outies?

Carpenter, AFAIK, only repro's: 6A-1130-A stainless steel "innie" (1948/52 F1, 1953/56 F100) and 9 1/2" C3TZ-1130-A (stainless steel innie bottlecap).

6A-1130-A will also fit 1957/66 F100's with innie wheels. What outie hubcap used from 1966 thru 1996 is smaller in diameter than these two innies? None.

Hub Cap problem

The hub caps that were in truck when purchased are C1TZ-1130-SS from Dennis Carpenter. The wheels on the truck have the bumps on the outside of the circle and I think I need them on the inside. Is this what you mean by innie and outie? I really like these hub caps and think they would look great on this truck. I am trying to keep as stock as possible. I have reupholstered the seat and replaced the headliner. Also found the original style radio on e-bay and installed. Any help with wheels would be great.

Thanks

C1TZ-1130-SS is a "made-up" by Carpenter Ford part number. The actual Ford part number is:

C3TZ-1130-A .. 9 1/2" O/A diameter Stainless Steel "Innie" Hubcap, has 12 of these \_/ around the outer edge. Peeps call this hubcap a "bottlecap."

Innie = So called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the inside of the center section of the wheel.

Your truck has "outie" wheels, because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the outside of the wheels center section.

Outie wheels were introduced in 1965 F100's, but innie wheels were also available. 1965/66 F100 Custom Cabs with outies came with C4AZ-1130-A 10 1/4" O/A diameter Stainless Steel hubcap.

This same hubcap was also used on 1964 Ford Custom/Galaxie/Galaxie 500, not reproduced. Standard Cabs came with painted versions of this hubcap, not reproduced.

If you are looking for wheels that fit the "bottlecap" hubcaps (or similar type) like the ones on my truck,(see my albums) you need
the hard to find "Innie" rims. (mind you....mine were for an 8 lug F250)

It took me about 6 months to find a full set of them, and I even had to have 4 shipped to Southern California from Ohio.

They are a one-piece rim (not split rims) , and what makes them so hard to find is they are tube-type rims, so they were used with tubed,
bias ply tires, and when they went flat, a lot of moisture got into them, usually around the valve stem area, and the corrosion is usually so
bad, the wheels are not usable. It is also not recommended to use them with Radials...ya, I know a lot of you guys do it, but that advice
comes from a custom wheel builder I know with over 20 years experience custom building wheels.

You could go the new route...try Wheelsmith in Corona, CA or Wheel Vintiques.

Hope that helps...

It took you 6 months to find them? 4 had to be shipped from Ohio?

Why didn't you ask me? I know where dozens are, coulda got all 6 locally at a LA LA Land truck dismantlers yard. Same location since 1929, same family ownership.

(sigh) Geez Louise.

Bill! Are you serious? I'm kicking myself now. I do have to add that it only cost me a small amount to ship them from Ohio due
to a Fedex screw-up. Are the ones up there F250 8-Lugs?? In all my trips to the yards, I found one 8 Lug, but did occasionally find 5 lugs
that were toast....they are almost always corroded badly near the valve stem hole or the rivet areas for the center section.

Of course I'm serious.

Long time truck dismantlers yard doesn't usually allow peeps to walk behind the front counter, look around inside two large 2 story buildings, stroll around in the yard.

Because of this, there are TONS of old parts there that most peeps are unaware of, some of which are NOS gen-u-ine Ford.

Most peeps doesn't include myself because I've been hitting this yard since 1967, was once one a my wholesale accounts.

Also doesn't include "Squire" Don (camperspecial65), Dave (garbz2), Robert (gangstakr), cuz all have been given the grand tour, and once the owner met them, they can go back, stroll around without me.

Dave bought a pair of used minty 1968/72 Crew Cab rear doors (super cheap!), 3 NOS lower valance panels for 1961/66 4WD's (real cheap!). Robert has bought all sorts of stuff.

"Squire" Don was pokin' around in the used fender section, found six L/H 1961/66 45" opening radius fenders that I had no clue were there, cuz I usually don't look for/buy used parts.

I have a pair of 16" outie hubcap 5 lug (F100) wheels available for the shipping when I get around to putting my tires on some correct rims for my '64. I got lucky and asked someone with a '64 with fancy rims if he had the stock ones. He did, and was just a couple of miles from me. I could find 15" rims far easier than 16" ones, so be sure of the size you desire.
