Greetings. I've read a bunch about innies, outies, dog dishes and bottle caps but can't seem to find much Info on wheels. I am looking for a set of stock rims for my 1961 F100 flareside 4x2. I have a full set of 9 1/2 inch bottle cap hubcaps (painted). I need to find rims that will go with these caps. Doing a search for 9 1/2 inch innie rims just isn't providing results.
I hear these things are pretty rare, but I sure would like to find some. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for? Where I might be able to pick up a set? Any repros in the market. I haven't been able to find any in the northeast. Thanks, Tim

I believe these are them. If so he has 10 of them advertised for sale. My trucks use 8 lug wheels so I don't pay a lot of attention to the 5-lug wheels.
Myford, I have a friend in N.E.Ohio. That is much closer to you than Washington. He is always hunting down 53-56 parts in about a 4 -state area, and I’d guess you two are only about 4-5 hours apart ( haven’t lived in Ohio since 1979). I can put you in touch with Kevin, he might know where some are.

These are car wheels, 1940/48 Mercury 15" innie wheels that were optional on Ford's that came with 16's as standard equipment.
1940/48 Ford & Merc Passenger Car innie wheels have the same bolt pattern as F1 & F100's: 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle.
The 1948/56 F1/F100 16" innie wheels are 4.5" wide.

Hub caps, regardless of what vehicle they're from, are called a "dog dish" because when you flip it over, that's what it resembles.
Pic: TYPE 1 Innie 'bottlecap' hubcap - 9 1/2" diameter = 1961/66 F100. No innie wheels or caps after 1966.
TYPE 2 is the 10 1/4" diameter outie hubcap. Outie wheels/caps were introduced in 1966, but innies were also available.
How wide were those 1940/48 Mercury 15" innie wheels? I only ask because - well really two reasons - the ad lists 15" x 5" and 15" x 5 1/2" (aka 5.5") if I'm reading that correctly so he *might* have some 15" x 5.5" wheels - and overall he has more wheels than you can shake a stick at so if a person were to call him they might find he has the right wheels OR maybe even some of those rare stainless steel innie caps for the 16" wheels. I do see some of those in some of his pictures of wheels. But, if a person can find anything local you save on shipping and might get a better price to boot.

Ford measures wheels across the inside flanges, not across from the outer lips. Most people don't know this, so...how wide are these 15" wheels using the Ford specs?
I see peeps asking for 8C-1015 5" innie 16" wheels in the 1948/56 forum, but the wheels are actually 4.5" wide.
I sure don't know - but he invites email and phone inquires for anyone interested in talking to him about the wheels he has. As always, buyer beware...

Caveat Emptor - Let the buyer beware: Beginning in 1949, all Passenger Car wheels are "outies."
Oh my. Looks like I opened opened up another can of worms. I removed the spare tire and think I may have one stock rim. I could not find any markings, but it was 15" with a 5.5 bolt pattern. I measured the width at 5", but tire was still on so I may be off a bit. The rim takes the 9 1/2 Innie cap, measuring 8 1/8" between nubs. Finally, this rim was riveted. I'm guessing I have one of the real deals.
Given what I'm reading here, there isn't much chance of finding a set of stock rims. The best chance I have is running into a single every once in awhile. My current rims are Innies, but take caps with the smaller insert around 7 3/8". This leads me to believe they are from a car. And the search continues.

If the innies are from a car, they're 1940/48. 1949 and later are outies and have a different bolt circle pattern (5 lug 4.50").
1940/48 Ford cars use 5 different stainless steel innie hubcaps, the most popular is this: 6A-1130-A (replaced 6A-1130) has blue FORD letters: Late 1947 and 1948 Ford Passenger Cars, 1948/52 F1.
1953/56 F100 used a similar hubcap, but it's painted argent with red FORD letters. Ford later replaced this cap with 6A-1130-A for use as "service part replacements."
These hubcaps will be found on 1957/66 F100's as well, because people like the looks of them and there are plenty around to buy.
How about posting a pic of the hubcaps that are on your truck.
Obsolete parts in NY: Nortz & Virkler Ford in Lowville has been in the same building since the 1920's. Another source is Miller Obsolete Parts in Vestal.
Sorry if this question is considered a hikack. ND in regards to the 40/48 Ford having outie hubcaps will the Mercury version be the same hubcap as what came with my 1966 outie Mercury 100?

1940/48 Ford Passenger Cars have innie hubcaps. 1949 and later Ford Passenger Cars have outie hubcaps.

Itsmyford, check out my post above. I can refer you to a guy in your area that may have a set, or know of one available. He’s a few hours from you in Northeast Ohio.
Here are a few photos. You can see that the spare rim is period correct and accommodates the 9.5 inch painted innie bottle cap. Next you can see repro rims that came with the truck. These rims accommodate the smaller innies that came with truck that ND identified as coming from an early 40s car. (See my first ever post). Lastly you see a closeup of the painted spare which is a riveted 15" rim with a tape measure for reference. Thanks to all who have provided vendor info. I continue to invite any comments and/or suggestions. Tim Painted bottlecap on period correct painted spare Reproduction rim that came with truck Closeup of correct spare
