.....16x6 stock wheels for my 1965 F 100 4x4......
The wheels Bill cited are not 6.00” wide. No half ton wheels of the era were, only the 3/4 tons. The earliest having innie hub cap nubs, beginning in 1948, were 16” x 4.5”. There were also 16” x 5.00” innie wheels offered beginning in 1957, and the 16” x 5.00” outie wheels were fitted beginning in 1966. Stu
I purchased a set (16" outie like Stu describes) from a Montana FTE member for a very reasonable price. Shipping cost to WA state was a shock though.
Before i made that deal I got this reply from a commercial outlet:
Hi Eric, Yes we have 5 true and straight original Ford wheels in stock at this time. These run $220 per wheel. Shipping is $98 a set/4 or less depending on your US destination. Terry Rowe AKHWheels.com
I intend to use tall, skinny tires that resemble the original, which was either 6x16 or 6.50x16, I forget. If you want to do the same, be warned that tire selection is limited. I found the Goodyear Transforce HT in 195/75 R16 which is suitable for these wheels. The more common 215/85 R16 - commonly used on dually cube vans - might work, as could slightly fatter 16's, but the tire retailer might refuse to mount them on the narrow wheel because his manufacturer might tell him a 6.5 or 7" rim width is required.
Hi Eric, I already have 5 NOS tires I want to use on my truck. I have 16s on it now, that's what it came with, with snow grips. But they are a bit cracked and not safe for the highway, but will be fine around the place in the winter for plowing. I would rather find another set of rims for my "summer" tires!
