2003 Surging issues

2003 Surging issues
Hi I have a 2003 that when going at slow speeds or sitting at a light the idle is running just fine then the next second it surges and almost feels like you were rear ended. It did this randomly a couple times then today it surged at a light and shut off but it started up just fine but now has a check engine light on. I have noticed the surging happens more frequently when it is hot out. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am fairly new to being a diesel owner. Oh I have also noticed that the fuel mileage has dropped considerably.

You MUST get that code READ thats the answer to your issue
Orielys or Autozone does it FREE
At a Guess it could be your ICP sensor its common and its in a GREAT SPOT on 03
Then start thinking about a ScanGaugeII so you can monitor some stuff they sell at AZ to or here> www.scangauge.com
It also could be a few other things so best bet is get the DTC Read

Thank you very much! Looks like I am working on the truck this Saturday instead of fishing.... Oh and seeing that the part is $150 or so looks like Bud is out the window. Natty light here I come! Haha
