1978 "Trailer Special" score
The document is this specific Ford Truck Parts Catalog. I listed the section/pages where the emblems are listed, said Mikeo0o0o0 can scan pics from this catalog, and does for FTE members, every day.1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog: (2) C7TZ-16720-H .. R/L Camper Special script nameplate: 1967/79 Camper Special / (2) DOTZ-16720-D .. R/L Camper Special emblem: 1970/72 Camper Special.
Neither of these were used after 1972.
I have no doubt that it will say exactly as you posted, and will show exactly as you described.
What i was trying to get at is whether the document you reference is better by nature than all others. If it is, then it is, but like i said, i don't "know" the document.
What i'm struggling with here is a couple facts.
#1, the sales brocure clearly shows the emblems mounted on the fender.
#2, every picture i've ever seen shows them mounted in the same location.
#3, the ford parts catalog describes them mounted on the cowl, clearly different than #1 & #2.
I concede the fact that current emblem placement on any truck, short of a known original, is subject to question. I also concede the fact that a sales brocure could have some errors. But i would also suspect that a parts catalog could also have some errors contained within.
to be blunt, it seems much more likely that one catalog has an error, than a national conspiracy to get every truck wrong.
Since most of y'all have no Ford parts catalogs, Mike and I are messengers. We read and type what the parts catalogs state. Mike goes further by posting pics, which I cannot do because I'm using microfiche. If the parts catalogs are wrong, argue with FoMoCo, they printed them. We had nothing to do with it.

for me, this is not about argueing. This a simple quest for the truth, which admittedly can be hard to define. But, for me, the truth is simply "how ford made them". Aside from the occasional assembly line error, how did 99.8% of these truck roll off the assembly line.
the problem is so much time has passed, people have changed things, and any catalog or brochure could have been in error from day one... so how do we figgure out "how it was"?
the amout of confusion regarding the Trailer/Camper/Super Camper Special packages is nothing short of astounding.
In the end, i think it is going to be up to the individual truck owner. If presented with all the visual, brochure, and catalog information, s/he can decide for her/himself how the truck should be.
One thing for sure it was special!
My $0.02
and Quoting meborder,
I couldn't agree more!!!
If they're really into it, they should have books on the history of FoMoCo and their old rolling piles of misery.
The Standard Catalog of Light Duty Ford Trucks 1905-2002 / by John Gunnell / krause, com / ISBN: 0-87341-411-3
This book has a lotta factory photos. Page 171: 1974 F350 Stupor Duper Camper Special, the S/CS emblem is on the rear of the fender.
Page 186: 1978 F250 Camper Special. The pic is fuzzy, but THERE IS AN EMBLEM BELOW THE MARKER LAMP.
I shoulda looked in this book sooner, cuz it's on the floor next to my chair (may have a Basset Hound layin' on it). But later is better...than not at all!
methinks we forgive ya Bill!! Bet the Basset would'nta been there had the "Basset Hound courter" (aka Gangstaker Robert been around!!

The mirror head (D5TZ-17723-A) is made as part of the goose neck arm, was designed so it could be flipped upside down, then swung around from the inside position (post 53) to the outside position (posts 54/55).
Post 53 are genuine Ford mirrors = D5TZ-17696-A
1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog.
Shown here (Text, Section 176, page 3) as type 8 with all the other mirrors available back then.
Shown here (Illustration Section 176.1, page 6) exploded view of all the mirror parts.
I've been looking for these factory mirrors. The bolt-on heads aren't near as clean as the arm-into-the-housing design.
Guess I keep looking!
