In short No. The computer looks for position feedback from the EVP sensor and also that the valve moves correctly when it commands it to via the EVR solenoid, so there is no eliminating it without throwing codes and setting off the check engine light.

thats not exactly true... When I installed LT headers on my 89 I disconnected the feed tube to the EGR valve, capped off the bottom, and left everything else plugged in. No codes, and the engine runs fine... i didnt eliminate it per se, but it isnt hooked up anymore.
