2002 Ranger; Help Troubleshoot Why A/C & Heat Blows Thru Defrost Only

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger 3.0L truck that, all of a sudden, has a problem with the HVAC system that blows air only thru the defrost vents even when selecting any other vent levels (defrost, face/middle or floor levels).

I did find a thread on another forum regarding this problem, only it was for the 95-01 Ranger model years, yet they say that the 2002 Ranger is not the same as those earlier models.

Any and all help and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

Check for a broken vacuum line under the air box going into the fire wall in the engine compartment on the passenger side.

When you say 'air box', do you mean air filter box?

He means follow the vacuum lines. Any serious enough leak in the vacuum system regardless of location will make the system default to the defrost.

I'm not familiar enough with your particular year, I would assume based on location that by air box he means near where the blower motor is.

Thank you for your help. Great call, that's exactly what happened. The supply line to the vacuum reservoir was cut in two near the vac reservoir.

Would you happen to know where I could find these vacuum reservoir PVC lines? I've been doing some searching online, but I could not find any place that carries them. These lines should be common replacement items.

Thanks again for your help.

Would think you could splice the two pieces together with a piece of rubber vac tubing. Take a piece of the pvc to NAPA to see if they can size it up .

Standard sizes of vacuum line -- rubber type -- can be used as a splice with excellent results. Just cut a 1" section, and jam the broken/sliced tube ends into the rubber and viola.

I found the same kind of hard-plastic line and connector tips at AutoZone for under $10. Worked like a charm. The ventilation system now blows air thru any vent level selected.

Thanks again for all of your help.
