Issue when "P"arking the Ex

When I park the Ex and put the lever to "park", sometimes it does not fully engage in the park position and the Ex will end up rolling if the ground is not completely flat. So I have to give it a firm push on the lever to make sure it's in "P".

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? What are the things I should check? Thanks for the help.

You might check if the two bolts under the column are tight! They are about where the shifter meet with the linkage under the dash and above the brake pedal. there is a small metal plate and the two (linkage) meet together. If it's loose, it can sometimes not go all the way into park and is kinda hard to get it in the right gear you want. I am pretty sure that the Excursions have them too. I had a 1995 Econoline that I had that problem and found the shifter linkage bolts were loose! Once I tightened them up it was like new again. Good luck, hope this helps!

You are exactly right, I had problems with mine not wanting to shift into drive without going all the way to 1st then back to drive. Most guys said he bolts get a 1/2 turn loose and the notice problems. One of mine was 2 turns loose, the other was 2 3/4 turns loose. I recommend you tighten one, take the other out and apply lock-tight then reverse the process so you don't have future problems.

The shifting mechanism in these super duties and excursions is pretty **** poor. My shifter also seems "loose" and I have checked everything for slop. Disappointed in the shift mechanism engineering with these trucks.
