Well heres the thing I recently had an 05 X I purchased off of eBay that was a V10 which had over 176K on the odometer but for some reason the engine was just so clean that it was almost too clean to be true for those amount of miles .
Well as of recent I picked up another V10 X that has less than half of those miles (under 50K) and the engine is no where near as clean as the of that of such high miles.
Could someone here chime in on some safe ways for me to clean my entire engine? is it safe to pressure wash the entire engine under the hood? maybe spray it with some special type of cleaner and then spray with a stronger water hose/gun or pressure washer? Or will any of these ideas just kill my engine completely or ruin it in some kind of way?
I would call around to detail shops and see what they might charge to do just the engine. You may be surprised. I was going to shampoo my carpets in my X and come to find out I can have someone else do it for $35. Not sure how many detail shops you have in Hawaii. The idea on the engine would be to let them get it nice and shiny then you can maintain it.
In your service manual it will tell you what to cover up when washing if I remember right (or it could be from the haynes manual)
At my work we use a chemical called trysol diluted 50% let to soak on the engine *warning doesn't like paint if left on* then we pressure washed the engine and it cleaned it amazingly. Safe on plastics and engine components. Only thing I would worry about is how much pressure it pits out especially on some weaker parts, and components that shouldn't get wet like the distributor.
Well, I'm sure avoiding the COPs and the alternator would be a good idea. My dad just bought a 2005 Focus from the dealer with 60k on the clock and it had 2 dead coils... ran fine when he went for a test drive, but after he signed the paperwork they pressure washed the engine real quick (can't let a dirty car drive off the lot) and it misfired #3 right away and #4 followed a couple hours later.
yeah I was thinking the pressure washing maybe a bit too harsh and maybe a water hose and spray gun would be a better idea. Also thanks for the tips on the few things that need to be cover up prior to cleaning.
On the Trysol I never heard of this but hopefully this could clean some splash and spills/drips of other kinds of fluids on the motor.
Also do I need to wait some hours for it to dry before turning the vehicle on again?
