Warm up engine use citrus cleaner let it soak rinse off then repeat again using a paint brush to make it even cleaner. I don’t recommended using a jet steam of water to clean if you do take it easy on jet steaming water on your electrical system. Best to cover some electrical systems with a plastic bag like the alternator, disturber ….. Try not to get degreaser on the Fan belt/s if you do use a fan belt conditioning meant for the type of fan belt you have.
I would not recommend using SuperClean on engines I have seen superclean take off paint under the hood.
whatever you use, make sure no one sees you do it. there have been quite a few cases in the past few years of people cleaning their engines with gunk and other products, and then letting the waste water and crud drain away. they were seen doing this, and reported to the EPA. the last one that went to court here in jersey ended up with a guilty verdict, and a $10,000 fine, with unspecified cleanup costs. there is one waiting to go to court where it was done in one of them drive thru do it yourself car washes.
I use Simple Green Extreme Clean. Got it at Sam's Club. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine. Since I NEVER take my truck off road, I only use it about every 4 or 5 weeks. You'll have to experiment to see what works for you. BTW it's non-toxic, so should be no problem with the EPA. You might want to check with your states laws just to be sure.
Here's a link to an excellent video on cleaning the engine bay.
I started using WD-40 that I buy by the gallon and pour into a spray bottle. Warm the engine, spray everyithing down, then wash it all off (Quarter car wash project so the gunk doesn't end up in your driveway). It beats any cleaner by far for removing caked up oil, grease & grime, but it's really safe for your engine.
no offense or anything but i thought on a WD40 warning label it says to keep away from electrical units and engines...
i use pledge or pine sol on all the plastic and gunk on the block area
both look great
I use 3 or 4 layers of opened newspaper under the truck, wash down with paint thinner applied with a engine degreaser gun and compressor. Grease and dirt stay on the paper which acts like a filter, the cement driveway is clean after the thinner evaporates. Granted if dirt is needed to be removed a detergent sprayed on like 409 works better than thinner, pick your weapon.
