How bad does your truck shift after a battery disconnect?

Ok when i disconnect my batterys my truck shifts reallllllly hard from 3-4th(or5th). Sometimes it wont even go into gear and my tow haul light blinks. When this happens i get a p0730 & a P2703. Now after about 50-80 miles everytime this shiftting behaviour stops and its all back to normal with zero problems. Until i disconnect the batterys again. Now i know they have to "learn" how long a shift takes or whatever. And theres a procedure to help speed this along. But the shifting seems sooooo wrong it cant be a normal thing.
So how hard does your truck shift after a battery disconnect? And does your tow/ haul blink during the learn cycle? Ive googled this and it seems to only be a 2003 model thing. I know there were 2 extra solinoids in that trans then other years. Im curious if this normal at all?

Thanks

I just replaced both batteries in my '06 and I didn't see any difference at all. I expected to see a difference but I did not. The owner's manual said after replacing batteries to let the truck idle until you are at operating temp. with all accessories off and then to turn the A/C on and let it idle for a couple more minutes before driving. After doing this I drove some back roads near the house and came back and really didn't see any difference at all. My tow/haul light didn't blink either. Maybe you should try this next time before driving the truck ? Hope this helps!!

Two more solenoids? What do they do? Why are they there? Why didn't I know about them as I engineered that transmission? (The 2003 has exactly the same number of solenoids as all other years of the TorqShift 5 speed trans.)

The problem is the software in the 2003. There was an update that made this better, and each year it was improved. You might be able to get the software updated in your truck to fix this problem.

Mine will sometimes slip between 3rd and fourth IIRC, it does it randomly, I am getting a 2wd solenoid code that I keep forgetting to write down, and an abs light & code, just not sure if it is my cool down timer causing it or not

Mark, thanks for responding. I'm pretty sure I have the latest tcm calibration. Is there nothing else I can do? Would custom programming help it at all? It sure seems hard on the tranny.

I don't know how to read the TCM programming. TQAU0N5 doesn't mean anything to me.

Custom programming may help.

....Update.....
Well im pretty ticked off but my truck never recovered from the battery terminal cleaning. Hard as hell 3-5 shifts, and somtimes it wouldnt go into gear and it would throw codes. Well i bought a sct sf3 just now off a classified add. I slapped on the street tune, added firmer shifts and pumped up the line pressure on the 3-5 shift. And its never shifted better since ive owned it. Im doing studs and new gaskets in the next two weeks anyway. Im contacting matt@gearhead tommarow for his 3 tune package. Wow sct is amazing the power is impressive.

Ya i'm finding out more and more that like mark said. This is a quirk with the 03 software.
But the sct can help correct this.
