Trailer Brake Controller Install

Hey guys, never had to do this before, would love insight how to wire it so i dont Eff things up....cause electrical and me dont get along lol....What wire goes to what? I got a Tekonsha Voyager, I don't know what model if there is one, its outta my 84 F-250....was in there from the beginning. I just cut it out before selling it.

What wires go where, I figure that White is ground, Red is Power, Blue is brake sender, and Black is light sender???

On my mark 12, red is in from brake light, black is 12 volt positive, white is ground, blue is power to the trailer brakes.

those pretty well cover it. for routing wires through the firewall, try to make space in an existing harness/grommet, in my van the PO cut a hole in the side of the rubber grommet around the main harness through the firewall, and i've added a number of things through that hole.
if you must cut a new hole, install a rubber grommet in it before you run wires, otherwise the sharp edges will cut into your wires and bad things will happen.
it really is pretty straight-forward, but then i guess i'm kindof a wiring nut, so what can i say

I think that is one of the ones that have to be mounted level, so keep that in mind when you're mounting it...

Lots of good wiring diagrams on eTrailer...

Why would my controller need to be mounted level?

some models may be picky about mounting positions, others aren't. but i can't think of any moving parts inside that would have a problem if tilted, so i say close should count

I'm not sure about an exact name of the part, but some controlled have to be mounted level or the wont work properly. Others (such as the Prodigy) do not have to be mounted level.... All depends on the model you have... I suggest googling your model and try to find an owners manual...

Aune163rd, Not sure if you or anyone else had the sense to actually search for the one you have, but here you go:

Brake Controllers - Tekonsha

On the left there is a link for the installation manual, straight from the manufacturer.

The voyager does not need to be level, just within a certain angle of level. One of the ***** controls the leveling of the controller, the other **** controls the power level to the brakes. The sliding button on the bottom front is to manually hit just the trailer brakes. The further you push, the more they apply. Great for testing to see if they work, and controlling the trailer if something not great starts going down.

I have this controller, it works great when setup right. It can be a little tricky, and will sometimes lock up the brakes when moving slowly. This controller is inertia based and a little lever inside swings around to control how much to apply the brakes. The LED lights green with a trailer attached and changes color to yellow, orange, then red as the brakes are applied. However, it can be easily fiddled with on the fly by turning the adjuster ****. Part of the trouble I sometimes have is related to the LED as I'm a little bit colorblind so its hard to see the color change if its bright outside.

thats interesting about the tekonsha. my van used to have one, but it was dead when i bought the van, i replaced it with something else, which works great, but i like the sound of that multi-color indicator light, it is a little annoying having the light come on every time i step on the brakes when not towing.
