I have a 83bronco with a c6 tranny 4x4. I replaced my stock302 with a efi 351w out of a 1996 f350 cab and chassis2x4. I installed a 1996 fuel tank with the sending unit and fuel pump. I took the entire harness, computer, fuse box, and out of the 96(removed lights but left tranny wires.. I drove it around the block with wires grounded out and stuff(hacked just to take it for a spin) so it does run and drive! I wanna get power completely now win out grounding out wires and splicing stuff together. Would I be better off getting a donor truck and installing a new harness or can I make mine work still? Also is there any company's that make new harnesses for applications like this? And is there a way to use my efi engine without the computer and sensors? I just want power to the engine and fuel. My tranny, transfer and lights are stock
My suggestion is to go find a donor truck with a 5.8EFI and C6 or manual trans and pull the engine wiring harness and computer out of it and install that in you truck. The '96 truck you got your current parts from very likely had the computer controlled E4OD trans in it so even if you get a clean wiring harness that computer is still going to cause problems because all the sensors associated with the E4OD are missing.
And as far as running an EFI engine without the computer that would be a big fat NO.. the E in EFI stands for Electronic after all and refers to the computer brain that runs the whole thing.
nice someone understood my mess haha. yeah I didn't think it was possible with out the computer just wondered. but it did have the c6 i beleive because they were used up until that year when i researched. i do plan on buying a donor truck though! my goal would be a f250 or 350 so i can take the axles too. is the harness i have good for parts? seeing everything plugged up and stuff. anything else i should look out for?
Try to get an F350 for the solid front axle. You won't really gain anything from the 80's-90's style F250 front diff. They mount in differently from the Bronco/F150 front diff.Axle pivot brackets are different as well as the springs. At least with the F350 the only major hurdle will be the leaf spring mounts.SAS gives an 80's Bronco a whole new look. There are several SAS swaps on this site.
The 250 wasn't a solid axle (D50) and some debate whether its much stronger then the D44 you currently have. There are plenty of threads on SAS on here and FSB as Big Vann mentioned so do a search for those, it is in no way a bolt on upgrade tho. Being an 83 your truck may still have a 9 inch rear end, tho a sterling would be stronger and have an 8 lug pattern.
