Hey guys,
I just finished putting a new clutch and pressure plate in my '79 F250. I drove it for a few years without the spring but now that I have a new clutch, I'd really like to get one in place.
A couple weeks ago I went to a local ford junkyard. The owner looked up the part on his microfiche and it said there are two sizes, one that was just under 4 inches and one that was just over 4 inches. It claimed that depending on engine, called out which length spring. I don't remember the engine cut off but I do recall him saying I needed the larger one being mine originally had a 400(460 currently, now though.)
I ended up buying the larger spring from him and tried to install it tonight. I used two pieces of metal and two bolts to compress the spring. I had the spring almost fully compressed along with the clutch pedal fully depressed and still needed about another 1/8 inch. It seems as if this is the wrong spring, to long.
What I am getting at here, I need some help. Was there two different size springs? I'm looking for any help and information about this I can get. I did some searching but nothing came up with this exact information. Thanks in advance!
For the shorter D7TZ-B spring:
Kinsel Lincoln Mercury, Beaumont, TX has 2 (800) 816-2894
Haselden Brothers, Inc, Hemingway, SC has 1 (843) 558-2134
The last list price was $28.26, dealer cost $16.96
It shows two different brackets, one for 73-76 (D3TZ-7A530-A) and 77-up (D8TZ-7A530-A). There are several different clutch pedals, whether any of the differences in the pedals involve the spring bracket I don't know, The catalog doesn't get that detailed.
Oldstyle-thanks for that link. Its always nice reading through a thread with number dummys input. I will definitely save that pParr number from o'reillys you posted for the bushings.
Went down to the Ford junkyard again today. I got another, shorter spring. This spring has a little less tension. It does work but i think I need a higher tension spring. I forgot to take a few pictures before installing it.
